City of Hermosa Beach Parking of Oversized Vehicles The City of Hermosa Beach has an ordinance that prohibits the parking of oversized vehicles on any City street or public parking lot without a valid Oversized Vehicle Permit. Parking of oversized vehicles in Hermosa Beach is authorized for Hermosa Beach residents only, and only after they have registered their vehicles with the City of Hermosa Beach and have obtained an Oversized Vehicle Permit. Oversized vehicle parking permits give owners of oversized vehicles the opportunity, for a limited time, to park the oversized vehicle on a public street or highway directly in front of, on the side of, or as close as possible to their own residence, and to allow an out-of-town visitor who owns an oversized vehicle to park on a public street or highway directly in front of, on the side of, or as close to the residence which the out-of-town visitor is visiting for a limited time period. This ordinance is effective beginning February 26, 2016 with full enforcement commencing March 25, 2016. Q. What is an oversized vehicle? A. According to Hermosa Beach Municipal Code Section 10.32.340, an Oversized Vehicle is any vehicle which is more than 7 feet in width or 20 feet in length, exclusive of projecting lights or devices allowed by Section 35109 and 35110 of the California Vehicle Code. Lights, mirrors, or devices which are required to be mounted upon a vehicle under this code may extend beyond the permissible width of the vehicle to a distance not exceeding 10 inches on each side of the vehicle. Oversized vehicle does not include pickup trucks or sport utility vehicles which are less than 25 feet in length and 82 inches in height. Q. How do I register my oversized vehicle? A. Hermosa Beach Residents must complete a registration application form, available at Hermosa Beach City Hall in the Finance Cashier’s Office, located at 1315 Valley Drive, Room 101. City Hall is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Q. What is the cost of an Oversized Vehicle Registration? A. Oversized vehicle registration fees are $40.00 and must be paid annually if a resident plans to park their oversized vehicle on any city street or public parking lot in the city of Hermosa Beach. Q. How do I obtain a permit when I’m ready to park my oversized vehicle on a street or public parking lot? A. Oversized Vehicle Permits are issued by the Hermosa Beach Police Department Community Services Division and may be obtained via email or hard copy. Residents wishing to obtain permits via email must contact the Community Services Division at 310-318-0209 at least 24 hours prior to the date the permit is needed. Paper permits may be obtained in-person at 1035 Valley Drive between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., 7 days per week, providing an appointment has been made at least 24-hours in advance. Appointments can be made by calling 310-318-0209. Q. How long are Oversized Vehicle Permits valid? A. Each Oversized Vehicle Permit is valid for a period of 24-hours from 12:00 p.m. one day and until 11:59 a.m. the next day. Residents may request up to 3 permits at one time which allows the oversized vehicle to be parked for a period not to exceed 72 hours. Q. Is there an additional cost for an Oversized Vehicle Permit?

No. There are no additional fees for an Oversized Vehicle Permit. The Oversized Vehicle Registration entitles Hermosa Beach Residents to obtain:   

Up to 24 daily Oversized Vehicle Permits within a 90 day period for a vehicle registered to a Hermosa Beach resident, not to exceed 3 consecutive permits at one time. Up to 96 Oversized Vehicle Permits within a calendar year for a vehicle registered to a Hermosa Beach resident. Up to 3 consecutive Oversized Vehicle Permits for a vehicle registered to a resident’s guest, not to exceed 9 permits in any calendar year.

Q. Must I obtain an Oversized Vehicle Registration if I have a disabled persons or disabled veteran license plate or placard? A. Yes. Residents with disabled persons or disabled veterans placards or license plates must register their oversized vehicle and obtain an Oversized Vehicle Permit in order to park their oversized vehicle on any street or public parking lot in Hermosa Beach. A resident of Hermosa Beach with a disabled persons or disabled veterans license plate or placard whose oversized vehicle is the only vehicle owned by or registered to the resident, and is required to meet the daily transportation needs of the applicant, may apply for an extended term of parking, not to exceed 1 year. At no time may any vehicle be parked in the same location for a period exceeding 72 hours. Q. If I have an Oversized Vehicle Parking Permit and park my oversized vehicle in metered spaces, do I need to pay the parking meter? A. Yes. Oversized vehicles parked in the city with a valid permit must pay any applicable parking meter charges. Vehicles occupying more than one space must pay the parking meter charges for all spaces occupied and must vacate the space(s) in accordance with posted time limits. Q. Will my oversized vehicle be towed if I do not have a valid permit? A. Oversized vehicles, as defined by section 10.32.340 of the Hermosa Beach Municipal Code, parked on any street or public parking lot in Hermosa Beach, not displaying a valid Oversized Vehicle Registration Sticker or Oversized Vehicle Permit may be subject to tow at the vehicle owners’ expense. Q. I have a residential parking permit. Do I still need to register my oversized vehicle? A. Yes. Residents will still need to register their oversized vehicles and obtain Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits if they wish to park their oversized vehicle on any street or public parking lot in Hermosa Beach. Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits are not valid at yellow pole meters or in 1 hour parking zones. Q. Can I obtain a standard daily parking permit for my oversized vehicle? A. No. Residents who wish to park their oversized vehicles on any street or public parking lot in Hermosa Beach may do so only after they have registered their oversized vehicle with the City and only when displaying a valid Oversized Vehicle Parking Permit. Oversized Vehicle Parking Permits are not valid at yellow pole meters or in the 1 hour parking zones. All metered and non-metered time restrictions must be adhered to.
