Things to Know *Before you Begin* All Quantities and cuts are based on 44/45”-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. All measurements include a 1/4” seam allowance, unless stated differently in the directions. WOF stands for Width of Fabric. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated. Read through the instructions before beginning your project. All directions have been tested and are presented in good faith, but no warranty can be given nor results guaranteed. We truly hope you have fun with your project!
Cutting Directions
From Background fabric cut: - (4) 3-1/2”x3-1/2”Squares (A) - (2) 3-7/8”x3-7/8” Squares. Subcut in half diagonally once to make (4) Half Square Triangles. (B) - (2) 4-1/4”x4-1/4” Squares. Subcut in half diagonally twice to make (8) Quarter Square Triangles. (C) From Green fabric cut: - (4) 3-7/8”x3-7/8” Squares. Subcut in half diagonally once to make (8) Half Square Triangles. (D)
From Orange fabric cut: - (1) 3-7/8”x3-7/8” Square. Subcut in half diagonally once to make (2) Half Square Triangles. (E) From Purple fabric cut: - (1) 3-7/8”x3-7/8” Square. Subcut in half diagonally once to make (2) Half Square Triangles. (F) From Blue fabric cut: - (4) 2-5/8”x2-5/8” Squares. (G)

Layout (1) Orange “E” Triangle, (1) Purple (F) Triangle and (2) Background “B” Triangles as shown.
Sew (1) “E” Triangle to (1) “B” Triangle and (1) “F” Triangle to (1) “B” Triangle. Press towards the “E” & “F” Triangles. Blocks should measure 3-1/2”x3-1/2” Square
Repeat Previous (2) steps to make a total of (2) Half Square Triangle Blocks of each color.

Layout (2) “C” Background Triangles, (1) Blue “G” Square, & (2) Green “D” Triangles as Shown.

Sew (1) “C” Triangle to the right side of the “G” Square. Press towards the “C” Triangle.
Sew (1) “C” Triangle to the left side of the “G” Square. Press towards the “C” Triangle.
Sew (1) “D” Triangle to the Right side of the “G/C” Triangle. Press towards the “D” Triangle.
Sew (1) “D” Triangle to the left side of the “G/C” Triangle. Press towards the “D” Triangle.
Repeat the previous (5) Steps to make a total of (4) Flying Geese Units.

Assembling the Block
Layout (4) Background “A” Squares, (4) Flying Geese Units, (4) Half Square Triangles as shown. Making sure to alternate the Half Square Triangle colors.

Sew the (4) Half Square Triangles into 2 rows. Pressing the seams in opposite directions.
Sew Rows together to make the center of the Star Block.
Sew Blocks into rows pressing in the direction of the arrows.
Sew Rows together to form the “Coastal Star” Block. Pressing in the direction of the arrows. Block should measure 12-1/2”x12-1/2”
