Off Season Storage: At the end of the season the water storage barrel should be emptied and stored in a heated place in order to prevent freezing or damage to your water storage barrel.

Warning: Never allow children to play in or around the water storage barrel. Always securely attach the lid to avoid a child drowning. Never drink water from the water storage barrel. Use water from the water storage barrel for watering or outdoor cleaning purposes only. Always place the water storage barrel on a flat and solid surface. Check the downspout does not contain heating cables before cutting when installing use safety glasses and protective gloves.

Note: Choose a downspout that has a level and firm surface beneath so that the water storage barrel will be level. 6.

Position the water storage barrel under the downspout and mark the downspout at the midway point from the top of the water storage barrel to the bottom of the water storage barrel. Cut off the downspout at this mark. [See Fig 3A] Note: It may be necessary to remove the downspout from the wall to cut it.

7.

Move the water storage barrel into position against the wall on the level surface and insert the downspout on the wall into the water storage barrel. Zip the lid tightly around the downspout inserted into the water storage barrel. [See Fig 4A] Note: The inserted downspout will add stability to the empty water storage barrel until it gets filled with water. However, it is recommended to add a couple inches of tap water to the water storage barrel for added weight and stability to prevent movement by heavy wind etc. Once water is collected in the water storage barrel, it can be emptied through the bottom spigot or unzip the top and use a watering can.
