Principal's Page Attendance Matters Greeting Parents and Guardians, It is hard to believe that the 1st semester is almost over. With that said, I want to make sure that the students attend school regularly. While attendance is above 90% campus wide, I would like for it to be above 95%. The only way that is going to happen is if every student has good attendance daily. We understand that students get sick and have to stay home, but make sure to turn in an excuse to the attendance clerk when your child returns to school; otherwise, it will be considered unexcused. Further, keep in mind that we are implementing the P.R.I.D.E. program (Performance Improved with Readiness-Innovation-Determination-Excellence) this school year. If the students meet all of the criteria at the end of the school year, their incentive will be to go home 10 days early for the summer. Attendance is one of the criteria and students have to maintain a 90% to qualify. We want our school to have a high attendance rate and with your help we can make that happen. As always, we thank you for taking part of in your child’s education and if you have any questions please call us at your convenience. Yvonne Munoz

Collins-Parr Gives Back!!!! By: Marina Perez and Iliana Casas On Tuesday, November 19, Collins-Parr YMAD members delivered 35 Thanksgiving Baskets. These baskets were given to the elderly citizens of our community. Every student brought in an item to create a class basket and every class donated a basket full of Thanksgiving essentials. This Thanksgiving Basket drive has become a tradition with this being the 27th year we have done this.
Youth Making A Difference By: Izabella Medina and Jon Rodriguez YMAD (Youth Making A Difference) is a fifth grade group that is all about giving back to the community and helping our environment. The sponsors for YMAD are Mrs. Pena, Mrs. Ledesma, and Mrs. Joslin. In October we cleaned up the local cemetery. We cleaned a lot out there. It was pretty cool, we were talking about the people who Collins-Parr Elementary was named after. Also November 20,2013 we made posters to promote positive behavior in our school. We put a lot of creativity into the posters. So I think YMAD is a very good club to join. It is active and also helps our community.

Counselor's Corner Be Responsible "Responsibility" is a key word in the classroom and as educators, we play an important role in helping students become responsible, such as making them responsible for their grades, class projects, their books and school supplies that they bring to class. Students can also show responsibility at home. Model responsible behavior. As a parent, own up to the things that you do and what your responsibilities are. Clean up messes that you make. Take care of the things that you own, and make sure that the children see you doing this. "Once a child has fulfilled the obligation that comes with responsibility, he or she gains a sense of satisfaction.... It's these positive feelings that help motivate the child to continue taking on responsibilities in the future." --Lawrence Balter, professor of Applied Psychology, New York University
