Colin Bossio is one of Biola’s three seniors getting honored tonight at senior night. Each of the three came to Biola as transfers, Bossio and Zook for two years and Kurtz for three.
iola Men’s Basketball has won twice as many games as it’s lost at home this season (10-5), but this is the team’s last home game of this 2014-15 regular season. It’s 2-3 in its last five games at home and 3-7 in its last 10 games in what has been a very difficult Golden State Athletic Conference season. The Eagles are looking to rebound after facing the top two teams in the conference in their last two outings and getting losses in each game. Vanguard began the season as the top team in all of the NAIA after winning the 2014 NAIA National Championship, but it quickly became evident that this year’s Lions team was nowhere near as dominant as the 2013-14 contingent was as they began the season just 4-4 (0-1 GSAC). They’ve rebounded from that rough start to put up a conference record of 7-7, making their
season’s storyline a nearly exact opposite to that of Biola’s. The Eagles began the year 13-3 before slipping to 16-11 and a 4-9 record in conference play. The biggest contirbutor to the Eagles’ lack of success in conference play has been a lack of depth. Biola gets 62 percent of its scoring from three players (Dakari Archer, Pierre Zook & Mike Kurtz), making it nearly impossible to put together a complete 40 minutes of highlevel play for a game in this incredibly talented conference. Steve Herve and Grant Corsi, Biola’s other two starters, have both shown signs of maturity and development and have flashes of ability to be gamechangers, but have not proven to have the consistency necessary to create a competitive starting five, both averaging just five points-per-game. The last time these two sides

met Vanguard wrecked the Eagles’ defense with 10 three-point makes on 22 attempts, aiding the Lions to a 60-47 victory despite shooting for a nearly-identical percentage as Biola. The Eagles got double-digit outings from its big three in that one, but only one other player (Christian Misi) scored more than two points. It will be an interesting matchup between Biola’s senior forward (Kurtz) and VUSC’s senior forward (Keith Mason). Kurtz has a four-inch height advantage, but Mason is inside the top-15 in the nation in offensive rebounding and blocks. Keep an eye on the battle inside between these two players who are among the best defensive assets in the NAIA Division I. Kurtz, along with Zook and Colin Bossio, will be honored during tonight’s senior night ceremony, celebrating their time at BU.
