Instructions: • This quilt is based on the “strip and flip” method where you sew the strips onto the back as you build the quilt. This technique works with or without a batting. The batting gives it great body and it makes a very warm cuddly quilt. We have found that not putting the batting in makes a very soft snuggly blanket. It works well for the blanket to carry around as it is really warm, but not too heavy. Try it both ways. For this quilt we have chosen not to use the batting. • Start by marking a centered horizontal and a vertical line on the wrong side of the 48" x 60" backing. These are the guides for your strips. Draw another vertical line 15" from the center vertical line as shown on the diagram. • Spray-fuse the first 6" x 30" purple strip centered on the center horizontal line. Use your outside line as a “start and stop" point for each of the 30" strips. Use the spray adhesive to secure each strip after sewing it on. Try sewing one strip on each side of the center strip each trip to the machine. Spray-fuse those strips and then sew on the next set. Use the pictures to lay out the strip colors and border placements. Freezer paper makes a great shield to put over the quilt and under the ends as you spray. • When the center is complete, use your ruler and re-draw another vertical line on top of the ends of the strips to give you an accurate straight line to place the vertical fuchsia border strips. Add the last set of borders and then spray-fuse the last set of strips down to the backing. • Square up your blanket. Bind your quilt by using a 2" binding strip with a ½" seam allowance. Apply the strip to the front of the quilt and fold to the back. Fold the additional seam allowance under and finish using the serpentine stitch Enjoy your blanket. These soft and cuddly fabrics will wash and wear for a long time, giving your loved one lots of love and comfort.
