No strangers to NCAA postseason tournaments, the SUNYAC membership boasts 32 national championship teams and countless All-Americans. Presently, the conference members compete in 20 sports: nine for men and eleven for women. Last year, the SUNYAC crowned men’s team champions in baseball, basketball, cross-country, ice hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, and swimming/diving. The league also awarded women’s championships in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, indoor & outdoor track, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, and volleyball.

Our learner-centered approach stresses quality education and experience inside and outside the classroom on our scenic, 690-acre lakeside campus. Students pursue bright futures through programs in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media, and the Arts; and School of Education – as well as innovative interdisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries. Oswego opens doors to the future with internships and study-abroad opportunities that consistently rate among the highest in the SUNY system.

Today’s student-athletes are faced with many challenges both on and off the playing field. Oswego State’s commitment to serving the well-being and readiness of its student-athletes extends from the classroom to the quality of athletic facilities. Laker Hall, which was built in 1968, serves as the Lakers’ primary indoor facility and is home to the Oswego State Athletic Department.

Head Coach Bobby Wilson Bobby Wilson steps into his first season as the head coach for the cross country and track & field programs at Oswego State after having served as the assistant coach for the cross country programs at Division I Bucknell University for the three previous seasons. Wilson helped guide the Bucknell women’s cross country, women’s indoor, women’s outdoor, and men’s outdoor track and field programs to Patriot League titles during the 20092010 academic year. The conference championship won by the men’s outdoor track and field program was the first league title for the Bison since 1991. He was also a part of the Patriot League women’s indoor and outdoor track and field championship squads in 2008 and 2009, respectively. Prior to arriving at Bucknell, Wilson gained coaching experience at Virginia Commonwealth (VCU), SUNY Oneonta and The College of William & Mary. Wilson competed collegiately at VCU where he won the 1998 Colonial Athletic Association Pole Vault Championship. He earned a bachelor’s degree from VCU in travel and tourism and a minor in information systems in 2002, and is in the process of completing his master’s degree in sports management from VCU.

Assistant Coach Phil Goodwin Phil Goodwin enters his third season as assistant cross country and track & field coach at Oswego State. He is a 2003 graduate of SUNY New Paltz, where he was captain of the Hawks’ cross country and track & field teams, holding several school records. Goodwin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. Goodwin is Level I certified by USA Track & Field and served as an assistant coach at SUNY Plattsburgh during the 2003-04 season, where he coached several SUNYAC and ECAC event qualifiers, resulting in 14 All-SUNYAC and eight All-ECAC performers. Goodwin also spent three seasons (2004, ‘06, ‘07) as an athlete in the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federaton, where he was ranked as high as 18th in the nation for skeleton.

2009 Season in Review Lakers Set New Program Marks The men’s cross country team started the year with three top-three results at the Oneonta Invitational, the Oswego State Invitational, and Houghton College Invitational capping off the season with an18th place finish at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional meet. Seven different runners established nine new top-times in 6,000-meter and 8,000-meter races, including junior Mike Bott, who set a new school record in the 6,000 meters. On the women’s side, freshman Rachel Sanborn was consistently the top performer for the Lakers. Sanborn placed 21st at the SUNYAC Championships, which was the highest conference finish by an Oswego State female since 2004. Sanborn followed up that showing with the fourth-fastest 6,000-meter time in school history at the NCAA Regional meet.
