CUDA BITES October 4, 2017 “Dream Big, AIM Higher” INFORMATION

Good morning - it is Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 Attention Seniors planning to attend college after high school graduation: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened October 1st. You may apply online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov. On the 2018-19 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2016 income information. Please don’t wait until the last minute to apply.

The following clubs will be Meeting today, Wednesday, October 4th: • Mu Alpha Theta Math National Honor Society during Office Hours in 5-228. • Literacy club meeting will be during Office Hours in Ms. Renner’s room (5-128). • "International club in Mrs. Guruvadoo's room during lunch and office hours in 5-205. • The Junior Class Steering Committee will meet during lunch today, in Ms. Leonard’s room (2-112), and is open to ALL JUNIORS. • Today the Gay Straight Alliance will meet in Building 5 Room 106, Ms. Tyson’s classroom. We need to plan for Homecoming which is NEXT WEEK! All are welcome! Hope to see you there!

Wrestling conditioning begins on October 9 at 3pm. Meet outside the wrestling room. Physicals, pay to play and parent permission forms must be completed to participate. See Coach Kehoe in 2-107 for more information.

Packets will be due back to Mrs. Jenkins or Mrs. Hubbard no later than Friday, October 6. Step Team tryouts will take place October 17-19, and all information must be turn in if you want to try out." Attention Seniors and ONLY SENIORS: This Friday, October 6th, is the day to showcase your post-grad plans! Support your future college, military branch or career path by wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt with the logo on it. •

Acceptable apparel includes a T-Shirt of a college, a trade, a worker’s union, a military branch or a career. The yearbook staff will be taking pictures throughout the day, so stop by room 5-110 to tell us about your after-graduation plans!

Attention Students: Have you purchased your Homecoming ticket, yet? What are you waiting for? You may purchase your homecoming ticket online from the school website, www.nsbhigh.com from now until October 8th. Ticket prices are: • Seniors - $15 • Underclassmen - $20 • Outside Guests - $30 All online tickets can be picked up next Monday, October 9th at lunchtime in the Attendance office. Remember: all tickets are $10 cheaper than the in-person tickets, so don't wait! If you plan on bringing a guest from another school, you must pick up an "Outside Guest" form from Mrs. Ponce in Rm. 5-102. All obligations must be cleared. See the school website for price details and more information. The 9th and 10th grade parent night will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 6:00 p.m. in the school auditorium and the 11th and 12th grade parent night will be held on Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Graduation requirements and much more will be presented on both evenings. Juniors and Seniors, please note that the Financial Aid night will also be held on October 19th at the same time as the parent night. This is a very important meeting. Please plan to attend. “Attention Students interested in Ivy League College Admissions: Harvard, Princeton, the University of Virginia, Wellesley, and Yale will host group presentations and then be available for questions during an hour and a half program for you and your family. The sessions will be held in three Florida cities: Orlando on Oct. 16th, Tampa on Oct. 17th, and Miami on Oct. 19th. Please see Ms. Johnson in the school counseling office for more information”.

Sports:

*New Smyrna Beach Girls Basketball team will have open gym immediately after school Thursday, October 5th @ 3-4:30. Each student has to have a 2017-18 updated physical to participate. Please bring basketball shoes or track shoes, shorts and t-shirt for our activities. If you have any questions please see Coach Cochran in room 6-214.
