GROUNDS and PROPERTY
Darling Forest and Lodge is located in the southern portion of the Adirondack Mountain region of northern New York. The surrounding landscape is a patchwork of public and private forestlands, tranquil ponds, trout streams, rural residences and small hobby farms. The nearby village of Stony Creek is a classic Adirondack community with an historic inn, general store and popular tavern. Several communities within an hour’s drive provide services, entertainment and employment opportunities. New York City and Boston are both a four hour drive by car to the south and east, respectively.
Outside the lodge, an extensive lawn is accented by granite stonewalls and perennial gardens. Nearby, two large barns, currently outfitted for horses, offer a wealth of possibilities. One of the barns is an historic 1840s vintage timber frame building; the newer barn has three horse stalls, electric service and a hay loft. Two fenced pastures, each about a hectare, neighbor the barns.
ACCESS The property is nestled privately at the end of a low-traffic, town-maintained gravel road. A 1,500’ privately-maintained driveway leads the rest of the way to the lodge. Within the property, a carefully developed hiking trail network extends from the residential area throughout the nearby woods and to an upper elevation area near the property’s border with the abutting state lands.
The property lies within a south-facing, Fenced pastures and two barns are currently hardwood basin along the lower and outfitted for horses. mid slopes of an elongated ridge with a small summit area along the boundary to the north. The land is flanked by “Forever Wild” state lands along the estate’s western and northern boundary lines – a benefit that limits development around the property and protects the privacy. Site opportunities include sugar bush development, recreational trail expansion, hobby farming and wildlife habitat improvement.

The current ownership has been executing a management plan for the forest over the last three years. Many of the property’s natural hardwood stands were established in the mid20th century as the land reverted from agricultural use back to natural forests. These forests range in age from 50-70 years old, with a younger 20-30 year age class in some stands as a result of harvesting during that timeframe. Major species include sugar maple, yellow birch, beech, aspen, oak and ash.
