Compassion Changes Churches a) Autopsy of a dead church
1. The church refused to look like the community. 2. The church had no community-focused ministries.
a) Compassion versus advice
3. The percentage of the budget for members’ needs kept increasing.
People need compassion before they need advice.
4. The members had more and more arguments about what they wanted. 5. The church rarely prayed together.
Colossians 3:21 (ESV) Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

Compassion Changes Character a) Being & doing
Psalm 82:3-4 (NLT) Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
The above verse was never designed to be just a social program. b) Moses’ request Exodus 33:18 (ESV) Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud 18 singing. I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach.” 16
Zephaniah 3:16-18 (NLT) On that day the announcement to Jerusalem will be, “Cheer up, 17 Zion! Don’t be afraid! For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over 18 you with joyful songs.” “I will gather you who mourn for the appointed festivals; you will be disgraced no more.”
It is my prayer that God would bless you as you continue in love for each other, for your community and for the Lord. God’s best for both this church and your life is not in the past. It is ahead of you. Do not lose hope for the God of compassion will never abandon you! Pastor Fraz
