Coach’s Perspective
Today the Dolphins graduate one of our premier dedicated swimmers and coaches.
Dear Dolphins Swimmers and Parents, As this season wraps up, there is one profound and motivating conclusion that can be made from looking back and evaluating the last three months, we are making progress. Not only are we making progress in the pool, but our progress away from the pool as an organization, has been just as profound. Our progress in the pool is evident by our results. The most exciting result was actually winning a meet. After so many losses to polo teams and USS squads, near misses to the summer teams, and moral victories, we finally got toz celebrate a win. Just a good ole fashioned win. In addition, we moved out of the last place spot at Relays. We broke records, swam lifetime bests, learned and implemented an immense amount of technical training and saw some very tangible rewards from a season of hard work. Our progress away from the water is what gives us the opportunity to make so much progress in the pool. From our new look board, to new relationships with vendors, to becoming a stand-alone nonprofit business, to all the amazing parents and volunteers, we are finding our way. All the tireless hours put into
making the team run smoothly and the development of policies and procedures has created a very strong backbone for our team and it will continue to make us more and more successful. As in most cases, progress happens slowly but they key is to keep it constant. If we improve every season, not by leaps and bounds but inch by inch, never backing down, eventually we will reach our ultimate goals. We are heading into this off season with a renewed energy, clearer vision and refined direction. It’s our job to build from the bottom up and reinvest in our youngest swimmers by recruiting and teaching the best darn group of 6&unders available. Our ultimate goal is to give each and every one of our athletes the right start and introduction to a sport that is second to none, that sticks with you throughout your life, where you learn life lessons that are never forgotten. Thanks for a great season and I look forward to even more progress next year. Best,
Sinead Hickey started on the team at 8 years old and is finishing her 9th season as a Dolphin swimmer and coach. She has since graduated from Laguna Hills HS where she swam a total of four seasons with the Hawks. Currently, Sinead attends Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame and represented Saint Mary's on the Varsity Swim Team her freshman year at the university. This Fall Sinead will return to Saint Mary’s as a sophmore and plans on spending the year studying abroad (Rome, Italy & Seville, Spain) Words she lives by: Hard work and determination paves the way for your dreams to come true !!! We wish to thank Sinead for her commitment and continued dedication to the Lake Forest II Dolphins Swim Team.
