Edgewood College got the conference season off to a flying start with four wins last weekend. The Eagles won a 2-1 pitchers duel and a wild 14-13 come-from-behind win over Rockford on Saturday, and then took 6-3 and 3-0 victories over Dominican University on Sunday. Against Rockford Nick Lehner homered in the fourth inning, and Blake Bieri limited the Regents to one run on seven hits over eight innings for the victory in game one. In the nightcap, the Eagles overcame multi-run deficit three times, at 5-0, 10-7 and 13-11, to score three runs in the ninth to defeat Rockford. Garrett Bogucki forced home the game-winning run with a two-out, bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth. Danny Appino earned the win in relief after picking up a save in the first game. Edgewood College opened a 5-0 lead against Dominican in Sunday’s first game, and hung on for a 6-3 win. Nick Lehner reached base in all four plate appearances, and Jeff Wolf pitched into the eighth inning for the victory. In the final game of the weekend, Steve Gavin threw a complete-game, threehit shutout at the Stars. Gavin struck out seven batters and walked just one in his second victory of the season.
About Benedictine University Benedictine University went 2-2 in their opening NACC weekend, splitting doubleheaders with MSOE and Lakeland. Benedictine was picked second in the NACC preseason poll. Benedictine is led by freshman Jimmy McLaughlin who is hitting .344 in his debut season. The power in the lineup comes from Erik Callaghan who had nine extra base hits and a .581 slugging percentage. Frank Greco is the ace of the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and a 1.78 earned run average.

Edgewood College got the conference season off to a flying start with four wins last weekend. The Eagles won a 2-1 pitchers duel and a wild 14-13 come-from-behind win over Rockford on Saturday, and then took 6-3 and 3-0 victories over Dominican University on Sunday. Against Rockford Nick Lehner homered in the fourth inning, and Blake Bieri limited the Regents to one run on seven hits over eight innings for the victory in game one. In the nightcap, the Eagles overcame multi-run deficit three times, at 5-0, 10-7 and 13-11, to score three runs in the ninth to defeat Rockford. Garrett Bogucki forced home the game-winning run with a two-out, bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth. Danny Appino earned the win in relief after picking up a save in the first game. Edgewood College opened a 5-0 lead against Dominican in Sunday’s first game, and hung on for a 6-3 win. Nick Lehner reached base in all four plate appearances, and Jeff Wolf pitched into the eighth inning for the victory. In the final game of the weekend, Steve Gavin threw a complete-game, threehit shutout at the Stars. Gavin struck out seven batters and walked just one in his second victory of the season.
About Benedictine University Benedictine University went 2-2 in their opening NACC weekend, splitting doubleheaders with MSOE and Lakeland. Benedictine was picked second in the NACC preseason poll. Benedictine is led by freshman Jimmy McLaughlin who is hitting .344 in his debut season. The power in the lineup comes from Erik Callaghan who had nine extra base hits and a .581 slugging percentage. Frank Greco is the ace of the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and a 1.78 earned run average.
