About the Eagles The Eagles came up short at Marian, 55-48, in their second-straight defeat by double digits and lost at home to Alverno, 68-44, despite a career-high 16 points from senior Sidney Peach to round out the week. Seeking their first win of the season, the Eagles came up short in the final two minutes in defeat to Marian, 55-48, despite a combined 26 points and 15 rebounds from junior Marissa Hoyer and sophomore Allison Gordon. It was a tight game from the outset and neither team led by more than six points until Marian turned a two-point lead at the 1:41 mark into a 53-46 advantage with 30 seconds to go. Hoyer finished with 15 points and seven rebounds on 6-of14 shooting while Gordon added 11 points, eight boards, and three steals on a 5-for-10 performance from the field. Peach knocked down each of her first five shots en route to a career-high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, but the Eagles suffered defeat in their rematch to Alverno, 68-44, on Saturday afternoon. Peach scored five of the Eagles first nine points as they raced out to a 13-12 first quarter lead. Fueled by six points from Karli Selear, the Inferno responded with a 12-0 run to start the second quarter and took the lead for good. The Eagles cut the lead to six midway through the third, but the Inferno ended the quarter on a 16-6 run.
