August Division I Recruiting Calendar

ELIGIBILITY

Baseball August 1-31 Contact Period Basketball (Men’s) August 1-31 Quiet Period Basketball (Women’s) August 1-31 Quiet Period

With the beginning of practice and competition just around the corner, here are a few things to remember regarding student-athlete eligibility.

Cross Country August 1-8 Quiet Period August 9-31 Contact Period Football August 1-31 Quiet Period Gymnastics August 1-31 Contact/Eval Period

Permissible to make in‐person, off‐ campus, recruiting contacts and  evaluations.  

Evaluation Period   Permissible to be involved in off‐campus  activities designed to assess the academic  qualifications and playing ability of  prospects. NO in‐person, off‐campus  contacts may be made periods.  

Quiet Period   Permissible to make in‐person recruiting  contacts ONLY on campus. Evals may  continue.  

DEAD Period   NOT permissible to make in person contacts or evals on- or off-campus or to permit official or unofficial visits.

Beginning on August 24, incoming student-athletes are NOT permitted to receive athletically-related financial aid until they are deemed an NCAA Eligibility Center qualifier.

PRACTICE •

Scholarship student-athletes are allowed to practice, but not compete, for 14 days prior to Eligibility Center certification, provided he or she meets all other requirements to be eligible to practice (14.3.5.1.1)



Nonrecruited (walk-on) student-athletes are allowed to practice, but not compete, for up to 45 days before Eligibility Center certification (14.3.5.1.2)

All student-athletes must finalize their amateurism status through the NCAA Eligibility Center Coaches may send student-athletes to the Compliance Office for assistance with this process.

It is permissible for an institution's Web site or an athletics department staff member's personal Web site … to include information related to the institution's athletics program, subject to the restrictions applicable to an institution's athletics Web site. Accordingly, a coach may post general informational content not created for a recruiting purpose such as game scores, team updates, facility updates or generic updates regarding the coaching staff and/or team to the extent they do not mention a specific prospect. These formats may include Web site posts, online personal journals such as blogs and microblogs (Twitter). In accordance with NCAA Bylaw 13.10.2, before the signing of a prospective student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent or an institution's written offer of admission and/or financial aid, a member institution may comment publicly only to the extent of confirming its recruitment of the prospective student-athlete. The institution may not comment generally about the prospective studentathlete's ability or the contribution that the prospective student-athlete might make to the institution's team. Further, electronically transmitted correspondence that may be sent to a prospective student-athlete is limited to: • E- mail and facsimiles until either ƒ after the calendar day on which a prospective studentathlete signs a National Letter of Intent ƒ or the institution’s written offer of admission and/or financial aid for an institution not using the NLI in a particular sport or for a prospect who is not eligible to sign an NLI ƒ on or after May 1 of a prospective student-athlete's senior year in high school, provided the institution has received the prospective student-athlete's tuition deposit in response to the institution's offer of admission. • Text messages after May 1 IF tuition and/or room deposit has been provided to the institution (phone call limitations remain in effect) • All other forms of electronically transmitted correspondence (e.g., Instant Messenger, text messaging) are prohibited

COMPLIANCE TRIVIA Who is permitted to contact and evaluate prospects  off‐campus for recruiting purposes?    A. Coaches who are certified regarding applicable  recruiting rules.  B. Any athletics department staff member.  C. Any institutional staff member.  D. All of the above.    Answer: A. Only those coaches who have taken and passed  the annual NCAA coaches certification exam may contact  or evaluate any prospect off‐campus.

The academic and membership affairs staff determined it is permissible for a member institution to arrange for media outlets to conduct interviews with a prospective student-athlete during the summer prior to initial full-time enrollment, provided the prospective student-athlete is on campus and permitted to participate in voluntary summer workouts conducted by an institution's strength and conditioning coach.
