Falcons Record Strong Second Round; Sit in a Tie for Fourth Huntington, W. Va. – (Sept. 14, 2015) The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team carded a second round team score of 281, -3 under par, to climb into the top-five overall after day one of play at the 46th Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University at the par 71, 6,573 yards Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va. The Falcons turned in a first round team score of 285, +1, over the first 18 holes of play. BGSU then posted a second round score of 281, -3 under par, to finish the day in a tie for fourth-place overall with a 36-hole team score of 566, -2 under par, out of the 16-team field. The round of 281 is tied for the 10th lowest 18-hole team score in BGSU men’s golf history. The Falcons last shot a team round of 281 at the 2013 Old Dominion/Outer Banks Collegiate. “I am pleased with the way we played today. We started out slow, missing greens and trying to play up and down which you can’t do on this course. We settled down to play much better over the second round,” commented head coach Kevin Farrell. “Jose did what we he needed to do and that was hit greens. It is hard to come into a tournament as the defending champion, but he played well, did what he needed to do and now has a chance to win. Mitchell played well today and really helped us out of the five spot. Brett was consistent for us all day, while Pablo overcame nerves his first round to play the way we know that he can play with five birdies on the second round.” Bowling Green will enter the final round of play in a tie for fourth-place overall with both Richmond (566, -2) and Dayton (566, -2), and just 11 strokes behind the tournament leader in Belmont (555, -13). Trying to defend his championship from last year’s event, junior Jose Narro paced the Falcons over both rounds of play with scores of 69, -2 under par, and 66, -5 under par, to conclude day one in a tie for third-place overall with a 36-hole score of 135, -7 under par. The Tampico, Mexico native totaled

nine birdies and 25 pars over his first two rounds of play, and ranked in a tie for fourth overall with a par 4 scoring average of 3.82, -2 under par. Behind Narro for the Falcons was sophomore Mitchell Kontak who posted a career-day with rounds of 70, -1 under par, and 72, +1. Kontak’s first round of 70 was a career-low for the second year Falcon, as he ended the day in a tie for 24th-place overall with his 36-hole score of 142, even par. The Toledo, Ohio native registered seven birdies, 23 pars and ranked in a tie for third overall in par 3 scoring average with an average of 2.75, -1 under par. Junior Brett Rinker posted back-to-back rounds of 72, +1, to wrap up day one in a tie for 35th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 144, +2. Rinker turned in five birdies and 36 pars on Monday. One stroke behind Rinker was BGSU freshman Pablo Heredia Iglesias with a combined score of 145, +3, to put him in a tie for 48th-place overall. Iglesias shot rounds of 74, +3, and 71, even par, over his first two rounds of intercollegiate play. The Sevilla, Spain native totaled six birdies, five of which came over his second 18 holes of play, and 22 pars. Rounding out the Falcons’ lineup on day one was sophomore Cameron Michalak who finished the day tied in 81st with a 36hole score of 150, +8. He recorded one birdie and 27 pars over his rounds of 76, +5, and 74, +3. Playing as an individual, transfer Max Rispler shot rounds of 72, +1, and 75, +4, to end the first two rounds of play in a tie for 65th-place with his two-round combined score of 147, +5. The redshirt-freshman carded six birdies and 20 pars over his 36 holes of play on Monday. “Overall, we know that tomorrow if we hit greens, putt better and finish the round out strong that we could have a chance to not only finish in the top-three, but win this tournament,” continued Farrell.

FALCONS take second at marshall 2nd – Bowling Green – 285, 281, 269 = 835, -17 3. Jose Narro – 69, 66, 67 = 202, -11 16. Mitchell Kontak – 70, 72, 68 = 210, -3 T23. Brett Rinker – 72, 72, 69 = 213, E T36. Cameron Michalak – 76, 74, 65 = 215, +2 T49. Pablo Heredia Iglesias – 74, 71, 72 = 217, +4 T80. Max Rispler – 72, 75, 77 = 224, +11 * *played as individual Men’s Golf Takes Second with Record Round at the Marshall Invitational Huntington, W. Va. – (Sept. 15, 2015) The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team had four players shoot in the 60s en route to a final team round of 269, -15 under par, on Tuesday to place the Falcons just one stroke off the lead and in second-place overall with a 54-hole team score of 835, -17 under par, at the 46th annual Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University at the Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va. Tuesday’s round of 269, -15 under par, is the lowest 18-hole team round in BGSU men’s golf history eclipsing the mark of 274 set at the APSU Intercollegiate in 2010-11. The round of 269, -15 under par, is also the lowest overall 18-hole team score in the 46 year history of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational and marks the lowest third round team score in the tournament’s existence. The previous tournament low 18-hole team score was 217, -13 under par, by Virginia Tech in 2012 and by both Xavier and Virginia Tech in 2010. “To have a record round at this event where past national contenders like Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and teams like those, that had eventual professional PGA players and major champions on their rosters, played at this event is just a great feat and an amazing feeling for the guys,” said head coach Kevin Farrell. “It certainly is one of the top moments in my coaching career.” The Falcons finished one stroke behind team champion Belmont (834, -18) who had an 11-stroke lead over BGSU who was in a three-way tie for fourthplace overall heading into the final round of play. BGSU carded rounds of 285, 281 and 269 to post its score of 835, -17 under par, and finish in second out of the 16-team field. The Falcons’ 54-hole score of 835 is the second-lowest 54-hole tournament score in the program’s history behind a BGSU score of 831 at the APSU Intercollegiate in 2010-11. “Yesterday we scored well, but just played a little sloppy. Today we did what we needed to do to win. We hit greens, between the five of them in our lineup we hit something like 75 greens, made putts and finished the round out strong,” Farrell continued. Junior Jose Narro led the Falcons with a 54-hole score of 202, -11 under par, to finish in third-place overall. Narro’s 54-hole score of 202 is the lowest 54-hole score by an individual in the program’s history besting a mark of 204 by Charlie Olsen at the 2010 APSU Intercollegiate. “I got off to a good start this season once again. I stuck to the same strategy I had last year and came close to winning again,” said Narro. “The team looks really good this year and I’m really excited for our upcoming events.” Narro posted rounds of 68, 66, and 67 over the two days of play. He finished the tournament with a team-high 13 birdies and 39 pars over his 54 holes. The

Tampico, Mexico native led the entire tournament field with a par 4 scoring average of 3.73, -6 under par, overall. Sophomore Mitchell Kontak continued his great play on Tuesday with a new career-low round 68, -3 under par. Kontak carded rounds of 70, 72 and 68 to finish in 16th-place overall with his 54-hole score of 210, -3 under par, a new career-best. The Toledo native totaled 12 birdies and 34 pars over his three rounds of play. After shooting back-to-back rounds of 72, +1, on Monday, Brett Rinker turned in a final round of 69, -2 under par, on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 23rdplace overall with a three round combined score of 213, even par. The junior tallied eight pars and 38 pars at the Marshall Invitational. Making the biggest jump up the leaderboard on Tuesday was Cameron Michalak with an 18-hole score of 65, -6 under par. His BGSU career-low round of 65 is tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score by a Falcon in tournament play with former Falcons Wes Gates (2012-13), Drew Preston (2009-10) and Adam Balls (2003-04). “I hit the ball good all week, but today I just finally made some putts and didn’t make any mistakes,” commented Michalak. “The guys all played great right behind me and we finished the week off right.” Michalak, who dropped 11 strokes from his first round to third round score, finished in a tie for 36th-place overall with rounds of 76, 74, 65 and a 54-hole score of 215, +2. His career-best 54-hole score of 215 included seven birdies, six of which came in the final round of play, and 39 pars overall. Freshman Pablo Heredia Iglesias wrapped up his first-ever intercollegiate tournament with a final round 72, +1. Iglesias recorded rounds of 74, 71 and 72 to finish in a tie for 49th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 217, +4. He finished his three rounds of play with eight birdies and 35 pars. Also completing his first-ever intercollegiate event was transfer Max Rispler. Playing as an individual, Rispler posted rounds of 72, 75 and 77 to finish with a 54-hole score of 224, +11, and in a tie for 80th-place overall. The redshirtfreshman ended the three rounds of play with eight birdies and 31 pars. As a team, BGSU was second overall for the tournament field with 121 pars and tied for fifth with 28 total birdies. The Orange and Brown also finished the tournament with a par 5 scoring average of 4.74, -8 under par, which ranked fifth among all 16 teams. Both Michalak’s career-low 65 and Kontak’s career-best 68 on Tuesday were extra special in that the two share a birthday on Sept. 15. “It’s always nice to play good on your birthday,” continued Michalak.

Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship South Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. on Sept. 25-26. The Falcons finished just two strokes behind eighth-place New Mexico State (887) and only five strokes behind seventhplace San Diego (884). “I am proud of the way the guys played not just today, but for the tournament overall. This is a really tough course and the tournament has a lot of strong teams in it each year,” head coach Kevin Farrell commented. “This helped us measure ourselves against some nationally ranked teams and showed our guys that when we play the way we are capable of playing we can compete with anyone.” For the second straight tournament this fall season, Narro was the top Falcon golfer with a sub-par 54-hole score and a top-10 finish. The junior carded rounds of 72, 68 and 73 to post a 54-hole score of 213, -3 under par, and place in a tie for sixthplace overall. The junior was consistent over all three rounds of play with eight birdies and a team-high 37 pars. “I’m excited about the way that the upperclassmen (Jose and Brett) played this weekend,” continued Farrell. “They are our two leaders and our most experienced golfers, so when they play well, hit fairways and greens, it feeds off to the other guys and their games.” Freshman Pablo Heredia Iglesias dropped three shots of his second round score to shoot a 74, +2, over the third round of play. With his rounds of 76, 77 and 74, Iglesias finished in a tie for 49th-place overall with his 54-hole score of 227, +11. He registered 10 birdies and 26 pars on the weekend. CHARLIE OLSON BGSU MEN’S GOLF ALUM (2010-13)

I am working for HUMANex Ventures in downtown, Kalamazoo, Mich. We do consulting, training, and evaluation of businesses, athletic teams, and universities/colleges/high schools. I specifically work mostly in the athletic side. We work with Big Ten, PAC 12, ACC, Ivy League, SEC, MAC, and many other conference athletic teams to help them become more successful. This includes team culture building, talent assessment for players and coaches, trainings, recruiting, and other innovative processes. I also am finishing my Master’s degree at Western Michigan University with classes at nights. My favorite memory from my career on the BG Golf team was working out, just kidding. To be honest the best part of being on the BG golf team was traveling with your boys. You don’t realize how good you have it until you don’t anymore. The bus rides, flights, and hotel visits, were some of the best times at BG. This defiantly includes the times that we were lucky enough to win - Penn State, APSU, Mac Match Play, along with a few others. One of my favorite places to hang out at BG was Ziggy’s. Is it still there?? GO BG!

A NOTE FROM COACH FARRELL

Dear BGSU Golf Alumni and Fans, The year started off great with a very competitive seven round qualifier! Then right after we finished that we had a great time visiting with our alums. We even played a little match at Stone Ridge where Justin Gillham ended up coming out on top! That fired the boys up as we played lights out our first two events! I am very excited to see where this season is going to take us. Please try and come back for the October 16th fundraiser, which is over Homecoming Weekend!
