ABOUT Today’s Matchup
Edinboro closes a difficult four-game stretch today against No. 16 Indiana (Pa.). The Fighting Scots have dropped three consecutive games against three of the top teams in the PSAC Western Division following a 75-64 loss to Slippery Rock on Wednesday night. Including today’s matchup, the Fighting Scots will have faced the top four teams in the division consecutively. Prior to Wednesday’s contest, Edinboro fell to local rivals Gannon and Mercyhurst last week. The Fighting Scots sit in seventh place in the PSAC Western Division with an 8-11 PSAC mark and have three conference contests to play beginning with the Crimson Hawks tonight. Two of the six PSAC Tournament spots in the Western Division still remain, as Gannon, IUP, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock have all clinched a spot in the postseason. Pitt-Johnstown (9-9) and California (Pa.) (9-10) are currently in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Henri Wade-Chatman leads the PSAC in scoring at 19.4 points per game, while Casey Baker paces the Fighting Scots and ranks 15th in the conference in rebounding at 6.5 boards per contest. Warren Chance is the Crimson Hawks’ leading scorer at 14.9 points per game. IUP sits in second place in the division with a 14-4 conference ledger coming off a 58-55 loss at Mercyhurst on Wednesday. The Crimson Hawks are one of the top defensive teams in NCAA Division II, limiting opponents to 60.8 points per game, good for fifth in the country.

FIGHTING SCOT SPOTLIGHT Jaymon Mason
Mason ranks second on the team and 17th in the PSAC in scoring at 14.0 points per game this season. The redshirt freshman also sits fifth in the conference in free throw percentage, shooting 86.8 percent from the charity stripe. He has been named the PSAC Western Division Freshman of the Week on four occasions this season, most recently on Feb. 2. A graduate of nearby General McLane, he has scored in double-figures in 19 of 23 games this season, including a career-high 25-point performance in Edinboro’s victory over Millersville. He added 23 points against California (Pa.) and dished out a season-high eight assists in a win over Clarion. Mason is a Health & Physical Education major.
January 14, 2015 - #16 IUP 79, Edinboro 69 - Trailing by seven points at 64-57 with 7:04 to play, Edinboro rattled off five straight points, including jumpers by Will Marrow and Casey Baker to cut the Crimson Hawks’ lead to two points at 64-62 with 4:42 remaining in the contest. IUP answered with an 8-2 run to build its lead to eight points at 72-64 with just over a minute showing on the clock. Edinboro would cut the deficit to five points at 74-69 with 33 seconds showing on the clock after a Tommy Scales jumper, but that was as close as the Fighting Scots would come as IUP knocked down 5-of-6 free throws from that point on, pulling away for the 10-point triumph. Jaymon Mason paced Edinboro with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Henri Wade-Chatman was the only other Fighting Scot to score in double-figures on the night with 14 markers, connecting on 4-of-12 field goals. Shawn Dyer posted a double-double for the Crimson Hawks with game-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Devante Chance tallied 24 points, while Jeremy Jeffers added 11 markers for IUP. The Crimson Hawks have won 13 straight games over Edinboro.
