Make It Fun Do the following activity as your 2-3 year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. 1. Mix the Dough “Mix the Dough” is an activity that uses fine motor skills and strengthens the muscles needed for writing. Be sure to list the items you will be using today on the “Allergy Alert Poster” and post it at the door to your room. What You Need: “Allergy Alert Poster,” white cardstock, brown Play-Doh®, plastic rolling pins, and wet wipes Visit First Look’s November Pinterest Board to see an inspiration for making your own modeling dough: https://www.pinterest.com/firstlookcurr/november-2016/ (If you choose to make your own dough, mix blue and orange or red and green food coloring to make the brown color.) What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy “Allergy Alert Poster” on white cardstock and hang it on the door. Give each child a ball of the brown Play-Doh. During the Activity: Instruct the children to use the rolling pin and their hands to mold the dough into a bread shape. Be sure to have your own Play-Doh so that you can demonstrate. After the Activity: Wipe messy fingers and tables with wet wipes.

What You Say: Before the Activity: “Let's make some bread! We will need some dough to do that!” During the Activity: (Give each child some dough.) “Here is our dough. We will need to use the rolling pin and our hands to make it into a loaf of bread. First, we will need to press it flat. (Demonstrate.) Great job! Now use the rolling pin to roll the dough. (Demonstrate.) Awesome! Now let's use our fingers to make it into a loaf. (Shape the dough into a loaf.) Great job! Now we have bread! Awesome!” After the Activity: “There is a woman in our Bible story today that is making bread too! Then something AMAZING happens with the bread! I can’t wait for you to find out what it is!

Make It Stick Do the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. 1. Stir and Recite “Stir and Recite” is an activity that uses movement and repetition to teach the memory verse. What You Need: Medium-sized plastic bowl and plastic spoon What You Do: Before the Activity: Have the children sit in a circle. Say the verse with the children. During the Activity: Give the bowl and spoon to one child. Encourage the child to stir with the bowl and spoon and then pass the spoon and bowl to the child next to him. As the children are passing the bowl and spoon, say the Memory Verse aloud. Repeat until each child has had a turn. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. What You Say: Before the Activity: “Everyone come sit in a circle. (Pause.) Great job! Let's say our Memory Verse for this month together. Are you ready? (Pause.) Always give thanks to God, Ephesians 5:20. Good job!” During the Activity: (Give the bowl and spoon to a child in the circle.) “Use the spoon and the bowl to stir just like the woman did in our story today. After you stir, pass it to the friend next to you. Now, let's say our verse together again!” (Say the verse several more times as the children continue to pass the bowl and spoon.) After the Activity: “Elijah was a good friend to the lady and she trusted God. God helped her and gave her good friends! We should be thankful to God for our friends! Who are you thankful for? [Bottom Line] I am thankful for people who help me!” 2. Dot the Jar “Dot the Jar” is an activity that allows the children to create a visual aid while the Bible story is being retold. What You Need: “Jar” from the Activity Pages on the Website, white cardstock, and brown or tan dot markers OR brown circle stickers

What You Do: Before the Activity: Copy the “Jar” Activity Page onto the cardstock. During the Activity: Give each child an Activity Page and a dot marker (or circle stickers). Encourage the children to “dot” the jar with the marker or place the stickers in the jar. As the children are working, retell the Bible story. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together. What You Say: Before the Activity: “Our story today was about a very poor woman who did not have a lot of food. She only had flour and oil for one more loaf of bread.” During the Activity: (Give the children an Activity Page.) “I see a jar on the page. (Point.) That’s like the jar of oil in our story! The jar on the page is empty, though. Let's use our markers (or stickers) to put oil in the jar. (Allow the children to work and as you retell the story.) Elijah came to the woman's house one day and he was hungry! He asked for some bread. The woman only had enough flour and oil to make bread for her and her son, though. She was afraid they would go hungry! Keep filling your jar with oil! You’re doing a great job! Well, Elijah told the woman not to be afraid and that God would help her. Do you remember what she did next? (Pause.) That’s right! She made the bread for Elijah with the last of her oil and flour. Then something AMAZING happened! The flour and the oil never ran out! God took care of her and her son. Elijah knew that she would never run out of flour and oil ever again!” After the Activity: “You did a great job putting oil in your jar. You filled it up just like God did! Elijah was a good friend to the woman. God knew she needed his help and sent Elijah to help her. God gives us friends to help us! Who are you thankful for? [Bottom Line] I am thankful for people who help me!”

3. Stick a Friend “Stick a Friend” is an activity that allows the children to act out the focus of today’s Bible story. What You Need: Heart stickers What You Do: Before the Activity: Give each child a heart sticker. During the Activity: Encourage the children to give their stickers to a friend in the classroom. Allow the children to walk around the room and trade stickers. Curriculum Materials for 2-year-olds • ©2016 The reThink Group. All rights reserved. • www.ThinkOrange.com

After the Activity: Make sure every child gets a sticker. What You Say: Before the Activity: “We have so many friends in our room today! I am so thankful for all of you!” During the Activity: “Let's give all of our friends heart stickers to show that we are thankful for them. I am going to give you a sticker and you can give it to a friend. Are you ready?” After the Activity: “Everyone has a sticker! That means you are a good friend and we are all thankful for you. God gave us friends to help us! Who are you thankful for? [Bottom Line] I am thankful for people who help me!”
