Annual Bark Week to Take a Bite Out of Pet Homelessness

nd

Today marks the beginning of the 2 Annual Bark Week at Great Plains SPCA. A fun spin-off of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, this week aims to empty the kennels at the Kansas City Metro’s most comprehensive No Kill shelter. Great Plains SPCA will celebrate Bark Week all week long with activities on Facebook including a coloring contest for kids, an online photo contest, surprise bark attacks around the Metro, and a donation drive to benefit their food banks. Great Plains SPCA has been a lifesaving resource to thousands of pets already this year, many of which have been crisis medical cases. The nonprofit works effortlessly to save all pets in need of shelter and veterinary care, but the best solution is placing pets into forever homes as quickly as possible. “By having fun celebrating Shark Week in our own way, we are able to bring attention to a very serious problem facing the Metro – thousands of homeless pets needing homes,” said President & CEO Courtney Thomas. “We currently have (INSERT NUMBER HERE) pets in our care and every single one of them is waiting to go home to a forever family.” The entire week will culminate with a big surprise event this weekend – a Barknado is in the forecast. Stay tuned to find of why this weekend will be “jawesome”. Great Plains SPCA has two adoption centers: 5424 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202 and 21001 East 78 Highway, Independence, MO 64057. About Great Plains SPCA: Great Plains SPCA is the Kansas City Metro’s most comprehensive resource for pets and their human companions, serving more than 30,000 pets annually – more than any other animal welfare agency in the area. Great Plains SPCA, a No Kill shelter, works to save, protect and improve the lives of animals, while strengthening the relationship between pets and their human companions by providing humane sheltering, adoptions, and affordable spay/neuter and veterinary wellness services. Great Plains SPCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. For more information, please visit www.GreatPlainsSPCA.org ###
