Children In Need Day On Children In Need day we held a non-uniform or got dressed in something spotty and carried out activities in class during the day. Well Done! Thank you for all your support with our fundraising appeals. Children in Need:- £217.28 Christmas Fayre:- £557.00

Lateness All pupils begin English and Mathematics lessons at 9.00am. Please ensure your child attends school promptly as missing the start of lessons affects your child’s education and opportunities, for example vital teacher input may be missed in order for children to progress in their learning.

Health and Safety Reminders In order to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all our pupils:Please park carefully outside of school and away from the main entrance as I am being made aware that pupils continue to try and run between parked cars to cross the road despite continual reminders from parents and school. Please note that pupils remain under supervision of parents/guardians until they enter school each day. Please ensure pupils remain on the school yard during this period and do not go on school outdoor equipment. Thank You

Year 1 Working hard in Maths We have been describing shapes this half term. We tried to guess the shape on our hat by asking questions about it.

We made 3D shapes using construction equipment and thought about how many faces, edges and vertices they had.

We have also been learning to read the time to the hour and the half hour. See if we can remember these times at home!

Year 5 0n Tuesday 22nd November Year 5 invited their parents into school to participate in some Maths activities. We decided to run this session with both classes in the hall and this worked really well. Everyone, including the parents that came along, enjoyed the hour long session.

There were various activities from playing board games, to investigating problems involving time, trees and cracking codes! We all agreed that this had been a fabulous experience and we are all looking forward to our English and Science workshops. We really hope you can make it.

Reception’s Pirate Party This half term the children in Reception have been learning about pirates. To celebrate everything that they have achieved we finished off by having a pirate party.

The children dressed up in their best pirate clothes.

We played lots of pirate games in our pirate teams

Hop, crawl, jump and walk along the pirate plank

Pirate Dancing

Pin the eye patch on Jack Sparrow

Blow the fish off the table

Team Sword won the star prize at the end of all the games

We finished off by eating our sausage rolls that we had made on the morning and some other delicious pirate snacks.

The Captain’s Table

When I was on the Captain’s Table I had a wonderful time. Warrant Officer Woods and Mr Anthony Jordan sat on the Captains Table with me and the other children. They were very kind and asked lots of questions and so did I. Since they were in the RAF and the Army a lot of children asked about their gleaming medals and badges. I asked them what was the most tiring and long thing they had ever done and Mr Jordan replied that it was on Remembrance Day. It was wonderful and I hope the guests thought it was too. By Danielle McNally Y6. Warrant Officer Woods and Mr Anthony Jordan sat on the Captains Table with me and the other children. We asked them lots of questions about their jobs and I even tried on Mr Jordan’s hat. It made me feel important and it was too big but I enjoyed trying it on. I wanted to keep it but he said it was very expensive. I asked them both if they had been in a war and if they had done anything special. Mr Jordan said he had not been to war but had practiced. He was in a big parade for Remembrance Day in Bicester. He said they had stood in front of a big Cenotaph with other soldiers. It was very nice to sit with them. I asked Warrant Officer Woods if he was the boss but he said no someone else is. Warrant officer Woods represented the RAF and Mr Jordan was in the Army. They wore some lovely shiny medals and their uniforms were very smart with shiny boots. We had a brilliant time on the Captains table. From Adam Buttriss. Year 5 NJ

Year 3/4 science This half term we have been learning about the human body. We have learnt that the 3 functions of a skeleton are movement, support and protection. To help us remember the 3 functions we used different coloured post-it notes and with a partner we labelled each other.

Year 6AL This term, Y6 have worked with The Centre for Life in Newcastle to investigate AstroMaths. We used maths skills using astronomy to calculate distance and dimensions of the stars in the Milky Way in their inflatable Planetarium. Throughout the day, we examined a selection of rocks, including moon rock, and planned an investigation to find the mass of each rock using a measuring cylinder, water and scales. It was very interesting and a lot of fun! We also constructed paper rockets which we ‘blasted’ into space-at various angles-after working out the correct mathematical calculations. It was a great day!

Earlier in the term, Y6 took part in a dodgeball tournament at Boldon School. It was exciting after winning most of our games however, we were gained third place overall.

In English, we have read the story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The story is still a classic tale today and encourages us to be kinder, less selfish and more considerate to others otherwise we too may end up as Ebenezer Scrooge’ s business partner, Jacob Marley, dragging his chains and wailing with torment in death.

It was lovely to invite our parents to work with us in maths this term. We were working on reasoning questions with our parents who were quite surprised at how complex the questions were. One grandparent told us that maths was not like that in her day and the maths we were using was much more difficult. We are looking forward to the English parent session next year.

Year 2 We have enjoyed completing more work about our topic ‘What if we built our own park?’ In science we have investigated what plants need to grow. We also wrote instructions of how to make cress heads! Year 2 have enjoyed solving maths problems and have worked hard to find solutions. We had great fun designing and building our own park!

We enjoyed raising money for ‘Children in Need’ and completing pictograms to find out how much each class raised. We also made Pudsey Bear biscuits!
