Four  Seasons  Punta  Mita,  Mexico  ​http://www.fourseasons.com/puntamita/   PUNTA  MITA,  MEXICO   By  David  Duran       Top/Bottom  line   A  short  45-­minute  drive  from  Puerto  Vallarta  International  Airport,  the  Four  Seasons  Punta  Mita   resort  offers  a  luxurious  Mexican  getaway,  close  enough  to  PV  and  some  smaller  towns  to   explore,  but  so  luxurious,  you  really  won’t  want  to  leave.  And  that’s  the  point.  With  sprawling   grounds  and  extensive  dining,  spa  and  sport  facilities,  this  is  a  place  to  unplug,  relax  and   reconnect  with  your  partner  or  family.         Rates   Rates  vary  depending  on  the  season,  with  garden-­view  rooms  starting  around  US$575   off-­season,  $975  in  season.  Figure  you’ll  pay  about  double  for  an  oceanfront  room,  with  a  few   rate  categories  in  between,  and  many  others  above,  including  4-­  and  5-­bedroom  villas  for   $10,000-­20,000/night.  Special  offers  of  free  nights  are  advertised  on  their  social  media  channels   such  as  their  popular  ​Facebook  page​.   https://www.facebook.com/FourSeasonsResortPuntaMita       Location   The  resort  is  located  within  the  exclusive  gated  community  of  Punta  Mita,  located  in  the  city  of   Punta  de  Mita  in  ​Riviera  Nayarit​,  ​http://www.rivieranayarit.com​  which  is  at  the  northernmost  tip   of  Banderas  Bay.  The  property  itself  is  17,000,000  square  feet  in  size  (yes,  you  read  that  right)   and  is  set  on  a  400-­acre  nature  preserve  on  a  private  peninsula.  There  are  173  rooms  and   suites,  plus  48  private  villas  and  25  additional  villas  that  are  part  of  the  Residence  Club.  Punta   Mita  is  a  bit  isolated,  with  only  the  rival  St.  Regis  Resort  and  a  dozen  residential  communities   inside  its  gates,  but  within  a  short  drive,  guests  can  reach  a  more  authentic  Mexico  by  visiting   the  towns  of  El  Anclote,  La  Cruz  de  Huanacaxtle,  San  Francisco  and  the  surf  town  of  ​Sayulita​.   http://www.sayulita.com  The  resort  offers  two  fine-­sand  private  beaches  and  access  to  two  Jack   Nicklaus-­designed  golf  courses.       Room/Bathroom   The  two  room  types  are  divided  into  casitas  and  suites  with  garden  or  ocean  views.  Casitas,   which  are  the  standard  rooms,  feature  the  same  high-­end  amenities  of  the  suites  and  include  a   furnished  balcony  or  terrace.  Very  subtle  Mexican  touches  give  the  sense  of  being  in  Mexico   without  drowning  the  guest  in  over-­the-­top  color  and  pattern  placements.  The  rooms  all  feature  

Four  Seasons  Signature  beds  with  down  pillows  and  hypoallergenic  pillows  upon  request.   Casita  rooms  are  spacious  in  size  with  a  sitting  area,  work  desk  and  enough  closet  space  to   hang  three  daily  wardrobe  changes  for  a  seven-­day  stay.  Like  almost  every  Four  Seasons,   Punta  Mita  offers  L’Occitane  toiletries,  including  a  bath  salt  cube  perfect  for  the  oversized  tub,   within  the  very  large  marble  bathroom,  which  can  accommodate  two  comfortably.  With  a   separate  shower,  private  toilet  room  and  full-­length  mirrors  on  the  backs  of  the  glorious  double   doors  that  lead  into  the  vanity,  these  bathrooms  have  absolutely  nothing  to  improve.  There  are   also  plenty  of  outlets  near  the  countertop,  so  you  can  relocate  the  iPod  dock  into  the  bathroom   to  enjoy  some  bathing  tunes.         Amenities   The  resort  is  extremely  kid  friendly  but  don’t  let  that  scare  you.  Even  when  completely  sold  out,   the  massiveness  of  the  property  compensates  with  space.  There  are  three  pools,  including  a   family-­friendly  infinity  pool,  a  lazy  river;;  and  an  adults-­only  pool  complex  with  two  separate  pools   and  plunge  pools.  The  moment  you  enter  a  pool  area,  you  will  be  offered  bottled  water,  cooling   towels,  sunscreen  or  even  a  facial  mist  cooling  spray,  because  who  doesn’t  love  that!?  And  the   amphibious  servers  will  take  and  bring  your  order  to  you,  no  matter  if  you  are  in,  or  alongside   the  pool.  Cabanas  with  televisions  are  available  at  all  the  pools.  There’s  a  new  beachside   “shack  bar”  that’s  extremely  casual  and  convenient  and  a  new  “sexy  beach”  renovation  that   provides  canopied  wooden  day  beds,  wooden  swinging  day  beds  and  ​Nestrest   http://www.houzz.com/photos/581125/NESTREST-­by-­Daniel-­Pouzet-­and-­Fred-­Frety-­patio-­furnit ure-­and-­outdoor-­furniture​  hanging  lounges,  making  it  the  perfect  spot  to  enjoy  a  romantic  day  or   evening.  The  level  of  design  that  went  into  creating  this  beach  space  for  guests  is  one  of  pure   genius.       A  large  fitness  center  with  views  of  the  greenery  outside  is  located  in  the  spa  area,  which  offers   body  treatments,  facials,  collagen  treatments,  mani-­pedis  and  other  salon  services.  Four  unique   restaurants  offer  a  range  of  international  cuisine:  Aramara  serving  Mexican  cuisine  with  Asian   touches;;  Bahia,  a  seafood  grill;;  the  casual  Ketsi  serving  Mexican  classics;;  and  Tail  of  the   Whale,  open  for  breakfast  and  lunch  with  views  of  the  ocean  and  the  golf  course.  The  resort   also  has  10  tennis  courts,  basketball  and  volleyball  courts,  water  sports,  private  tours,  a  surf   school  and  even  a  private  10-­person  yacht  for  day  trips  and  entertaining.  It’s  been  around  for   over  two  decades  but  with  constant  upkeep  of  the  lush  gardens  throughout,  and  the  recent   beach  area  upgrades,  it  still  feels  like  new.  The  moment  you  walk  through  the  open-­air  lobby   and  see  the  magnificent  views  of  the  infinity  pool  and  ocean,  you’ll  realize  the  extra  coins  spent   were  well  worth  it.
