Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico http://www.fourseasons.com/puntamita/ PUNTA MITA, MEXICO By David Duran Top/Bottom line A short 45-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta International Airport, the Four Seasons Punta Mita resort offers a luxurious Mexican getaway, close enough to PV and some smaller towns to explore, but so luxurious, you really won’t want to leave. And that’s the point. With sprawling grounds and extensive dining, spa and sport facilities, this is a place to unplug, relax and reconnect with your partner or family. Rates Rates vary depending on the season, with garden-view rooms starting around US$575 off-season, $975 in season. Figure you’ll pay about double for an oceanfront room, with a few rate categories in between, and many others above, including 4- and 5-bedroom villas for $10,000-20,000/night. Special offers of free nights are advertised on their social media channels such as their popular Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/FourSeasonsResortPuntaMita Location The resort is located within the exclusive gated community of Punta Mita, located in the city of Punta de Mita in Riviera Nayarit, http://www.rivieranayarit.com which is at the northernmost tip of Banderas Bay. The property itself is 17,000,000 square feet in size (yes, you read that right) and is set on a 400-acre nature preserve on a private peninsula. There are 173 rooms and suites, plus 48 private villas and 25 additional villas that are part of the Residence Club. Punta Mita is a bit isolated, with only the rival St. Regis Resort and a dozen residential communities inside its gates, but within a short drive, guests can reach a more authentic Mexico by visiting the towns of El Anclote, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, San Francisco and the surf town of Sayulita. http://www.sayulita.com The resort offers two fine-sand private beaches and access to two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses. Room/Bathroom The two room types are divided into casitas and suites with garden or ocean views. Casitas, which are the standard rooms, feature the same high-end amenities of the suites and include a furnished balcony or terrace. Very subtle Mexican touches give the sense of being in Mexico without drowning the guest in over-the-top color and pattern placements. The rooms all feature
Four Seasons Signature beds with down pillows and hypoallergenic pillows upon request. Casita rooms are spacious in size with a sitting area, work desk and enough closet space to hang three daily wardrobe changes for a seven-day stay. Like almost every Four Seasons, Punta Mita offers L’Occitane toiletries, including a bath salt cube perfect for the oversized tub, within the very large marble bathroom, which can accommodate two comfortably. With a separate shower, private toilet room and full-length mirrors on the backs of the glorious double doors that lead into the vanity, these bathrooms have absolutely nothing to improve. There are also plenty of outlets near the countertop, so you can relocate the iPod dock into the bathroom to enjoy some bathing tunes. Amenities The resort is extremely kid friendly but don’t let that scare you. Even when completely sold out, the massiveness of the property compensates with space. There are three pools, including a family-friendly infinity pool, a lazy river;; and an adults-only pool complex with two separate pools and plunge pools. The moment you enter a pool area, you will be offered bottled water, cooling towels, sunscreen or even a facial mist cooling spray, because who doesn’t love that!? And the amphibious servers will take and bring your order to you, no matter if you are in, or alongside the pool. Cabanas with televisions are available at all the pools. There’s a new beachside “shack bar” that’s extremely casual and convenient and a new “sexy beach” renovation that provides canopied wooden day beds, wooden swinging day beds and Nestrest http://www.houzz.com/photos/581125/NESTREST-by-Daniel-Pouzet-and-Fred-Frety-patio-furnit ure-and-outdoor-furniture hanging lounges, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic day or evening. The level of design that went into creating this beach space for guests is one of pure genius. A large fitness center with views of the greenery outside is located in the spa area, which offers body treatments, facials, collagen treatments, mani-pedis and other salon services. Four unique restaurants offer a range of international cuisine: Aramara serving Mexican cuisine with Asian touches;; Bahia, a seafood grill;; the casual Ketsi serving Mexican classics;; and Tail of the Whale, open for breakfast and lunch with views of the ocean and the golf course. The resort also has 10 tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, water sports, private tours, a surf school and even a private 10-person yacht for day trips and entertaining. It’s been around for over two decades but with constant upkeep of the lush gardens throughout, and the recent beach area upgrades, it still feels like new. The moment you walk through the open-air lobby and see the magnificent views of the infinity pool and ocean, you’ll realize the extra coins spent were well worth it.
Gay factor The Four Seasons brand is all welcoming, and with gay-popular Puerto Vallarta so close, the staff and locals are accustomed to seeing all different types of couples and families. There might not a gaggle of gays lying out by the pool but if there were, it wouldn’t be an issue.
