Friday 13th May 2016 Dear Families, T for Think Differently and Try Your Best! It has been a very long week for Year Six and their support team this week. They have done exactly what we asked of them

many

people who we need to thank for supporting Y6 this week. Firstly,

Mrs

Young

for

ensuring

the

week

was

organised

impeccably, the children were well prepared and calm – you are a star! Next we need to thank Mrs Ely, Mrs Harris, Miss Oughton, Mr Hepburn and Mr Murtagh for their support across the year and throughout the week. Thanks also goes to all the support staff who helped administer the tests this week and to the teachers who released these staff members so they could help! Finally thanks to the

parents

of

Y6

who

ensured

the

children

Wow! 11 classes all at or above our target – perhaps next week we will have all classes coloured green. Well done everyone! Play-fighting We have noticed an increase in the occurrence of ‘play fighting’ in school and on the playground. This has led to injuries and wasted learning time. Mr Murtagh has been working with several classes and has spoken to the school as a whole about the school’s zero tolerance for such behaviour. Play

fighting

includes

wrestling, tripping

each other

over, grappling, pushing, shoving, kicking, punching or pretending to do any

of

these

things.

It

also

includes

any

unacceptable

physical

contact

that

potentially could cause an injury. These incidents usually start as a game or as a joke. We actively encourage the children to play positively on the playground and playing games of ‘it’ or ‘Heroes and Chickens’ is lovely to see. If your child is involved in play fighting you will be contacted and asked to collect your child for a half day exclusion. Please do speak with your child about this over the weekend.

Rain Coats! The weather this week has been very mixed and on a couple of occasions, many children did not have the correct outerwear to ensure

they

could

still

go

outside

and

play

despite

a

small

amount of drizzle. Please make sure your child has a coat in school on days where rain is forecast so they are still able to enjoy some time outside.

Donations The final total raised for the Non-uniform Day in aid of Peter Douthwaite was £1010.00. A big thank you to everybody that sent in money. Kind regards,

Sarah Kneller Headteacher
