Today, I will compose a cube and rectangular prism by combining two or more different shapes using a net.

Vocabulary

Teacher Resources Considerations: Use the nets provided at the end of the previous lesson to provide manipulatives for students, if needed.

Cube : A box shaped solid object made up of 6 square faces.

Just like a square is a special type of rectangle, a cube is a special type of rectangular prism. A rectangular prism has rectangular faces. Since a square has four sides of equal length, the solid figure formed by six squares is a cube. Each face is the same size, and each edge is the same length. The term “non-cubic” is introduced to distinguish other rectangular prisms from a cube.

Rectangular prism: A solid object made up of 6 rectangular faces.

Application of MPs: MP1:

How do drawings help you in today’s lesson?

MP4: How would it help to create a diagram?
