GARDEN CAT QUILT Designed by Joanne Denekamp & Katherine Thys
Finished Quilt Size: 50” x 70” Finished Block Size: 10”
Fabric Requirements One Jelly Roll (2 1/2” wide) From 42” wide fabric - 2 yards Cream - 3/4 yard Plain Black for appliqué - fat quarter Pink appliqué flowers - 41/2 yards for backing & binding - batting 60” x 80” - thread of your choice
Cutting instructions include 1/4” seam allowances for blocks. Be sure to read through the instructions before beginning. Tool Requirements Rotary Cutter and mat 24” quilting ruler Scissors 1 yard Lite Steam-A-Seam2 Iron
Appliqués are sewn on using the raw edge method.

You will need to make:
Block Cutting Instructions From Cream (35) 4 ” centre square 1 (35) 6 ” ” strip 4 (35) 8 ” ” From Jelly Roll (35) 4 ” ” strip 2 (35) 6 ” ” strip 3 (35) 8 ” ” strip 6 (35) 10 ” ” strip 7
1 Cat 3 Large flowers 3 Medium flowers 3 Small flowers 9 Leaves of your choice 4 Stalks
Step 1 Make block Following the piecing diagram below make up 35 blocks.

Trace appliqué patterns onto fusible web following manufacturers instructions. Position traced uncut patterns onto the wrong side of fabric and iron. Cut out appliqués along lines. Peel off paper and position appliqués on quilt. Press appliqués in place. Stitch around each appliqué using matching thread and stitch of your choice.

Step 4 Finishing Layer backing, batting and quilt top together and quilt using your preferred method. Cut 2 ” wide binding strips and sew together to form a continuous strip. Iron in half lengthwise and sew on quilt using your preferred method.

Step 2 Quilt Assembly Layout blocks into rows as per diagram on the right. Sew blocks together in rows. Sew rows together to create quilt background. Step 3 Appliqué Full sized patterns can be downloaded here: http://www.all-about-quilts.com/garden-catquilt.html Enlarge appliqué shapes to desired size. Below are the sizes I used. Each flower is made from the same flower template but in different sizes. Cat: 15” tall Large flower: 8” Medium Flower: 6½” Small Flower: 3” Leaves and stems to desired size. 2
