Learn How to Long Arm Your Own Quilts Long Arm Training—The Basics of Long Arm Quilting October 10, 12, 19, 24 or 26 from 10 am to 11:30 am November 9, 14, 28 or 30 from 10 am to 11:30 am October 13 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm November 15 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm October 17 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm November 7 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm December 13 or 14 from 10 am to 11:30 am December 1, 8 or 12 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm December 5 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm If you haven’t taken a turn on our very own Gammill Long Arm, Lucille, now is your chance. Students can sign up for a group session (just two students) or a one-on-one private lesson with instructor Cindy Krelle as she shows students how to wind bobbins, thread Lucille and load a quilt. Then she instructs students on various techniques for finishing quilts including free motion, meander and more. Each class is 1 1/2 hours long and a half hour of “play”. Please note: All students must complete Long Arm Training before renting Lucille. Rental fees for Lucille are $20 per hour.

Quilting With Pantographs on the Long Arm Mondays, October 17, November 21 or December 19 from 11 am to 12 pm Once you’ve learned the basics of Long Arm Quilting and have quilted a few quilts, you will want to advance your skills and techniques by learning pantograph quilting. Pantographs are edge to edge, continuous line designs that are “traced” onto your quilt using a laser light. No thought required, just a steady hand! Once you’ve quilted with a pantograph, you’ll be finishing quilt top after quilt top with the look of a professional!

Get it done at PSQ! UFO’s—Unfinished Objects Fridays, October 7 and 21, November 4 and 18, December 2 and 16 from 6 pm to 11 pm Be afraid, be very afraid. Are they lurking in the closet of your sewing room? Are they sneaking out from under your bed? “They” are all of the UnFinished Objects or UFOs that we all seem to have, and they are multiplying. Pre-registration is required (space is limited) and it’s FREE. Just bring a snack to share and enjoy 5 hours of uninterrupted sewing time (you may come and go as you please) with your fellow quilters and end the spread of UFO’s in your home!

Thursdays, October 13, November 10 or December 8 from 6 pm to 9 pm Tuesday, October 18, November 15 or December 20 from 1 pm to 4 pm Formerly known as “Pick Your Project” this class assists students who need a little extra help with a project or want to start a new project. You decide what to work on, sew at your own pace, learn with guidance, and build relationships with others who share a passion for quilting.

Piece Like a Pro Saturday, October 1 from 1 pm to 4 pm Why, after being as careful as you know how, do you still have problems with accuracy? Caron will help break down the processes of cutting, sewing, and pressing and share tips and tricks even the most experienced quilter will benefit from.

Rag Time Quilt Saturday, October 8 from 10 am to 1 pm A Rag Quilt is easy to make and customize to your needs. Make a cute baby quilt, a TV throw or a warm camping blanket. And, when you’re done piecing, the quilt is complete.

Shadowbox Thursdays, October 20 and November 17 from 6 pm to 9 pm Shadowbox makes a stunning 3D effect that is forgiving and uses big prints to advantage. I will also demonstrate a 2-sided binding (using 2 fabrics) to best match the colors on each side of the quilt.

Color Visualization Thursday, November 3 from 6 pm to 8 pm Why do some quilts “sing” and others hit a flat note? Color is many times at the center of a successful quilt and Caron helps take the mystery out of selecting fabrics that will make your quilt symphonic!

Fun With Big Print/BQ2 Saturdays, November 5 and 19 from 1 pm to 4 pm Showcase your large print fabrics using either 18” or 13.5” blocks in this easy to construct, borderless quilt. We will be moving the center squares off-center and crossing the frames to create a fun and artistic quilt

The “Burrito” Pillowcase Saturday, November 19 from 10 am to 12 pm Pillowcases are fun, easy and give you instant gratification! And, once you learn the “Burrito” method of making a pillowcase, you’ll want to make them all day long. This easy method encloses all seams and is so fast and easy ANYBODY can do it. This class is perfect for kids, too (with a parent’s assistance).

Confident Beginners and Up Native Blanket Fridays, October 7, 28 and November 11 from 1 pm to 4 pm This quilt is a twist on a log cabin quilt. Instead of squares, we will be making diamonds and triangles to create the “Native Blanket” quilt. However, if you decide you would like to do another quilt design from the book “Not Your Grandmother’s Log Cabin” feel free! The techniques for all the quilts in the book are very similar.

Not Your Grandmother’s Pocketbook—It’s a Snap! Saturday, October 22 from 10 am to 12 pm Grab three coordinating fat quarters and join the fun! Learn the basic construction techniques for these clever “pop” open pocketbook size purses which use metal tape measure pieces and fabric prairie points for easy open and closure.

Shadowed Stars Saturday, October 29 from 10 am to 4 pm I love the look of these graphic shadowed stars that are easier to construct than you might guess with the aid of a great new ruler/tool. The blocks are made slightly oversized and are trimmed to the exact size after sewing. The quilt may be made in any size and can have lots of looks depending on your fabric choices. Come join us for a fun filled day of sewing.

Create Your Own Plaid Quilt Sunday, November 13 from 12 pm to 4 pm Make one block (a rectangle of 9 pieces), add sashing strips and create your own “plaid”. Both sample quilts are made using the same size and number of pieces in the block, they’re just oriented differently to create a fabulous quilt!

3D Blocks Sunday, November 20 from 12 pm to 4 pm Fat Quarter friendly, three dimensional blocks are made by folding squares and rectangles rather than piecing. Once you learn the technique, you can assemble blocks in record time.

Four-Patch Posie Thursdays, December 1 and 15 from 6 to 9 pm Take just one fabric but create many different designs! Transform a Focus or Novelty fabric into a 4 Patch Kaleidoscope quilt that will delight and make you want to try different fabrics.

Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star Saturday, December 3 from 1 pm to 5 pm Learn a new technique designed to streamline construction of the traditional Hunter’s Star block.

Straight Out of Line Saturday, December 10 from 10 am to 4 pm This quilt is a lot of fun to make, easy to construct and can be pulled together from any mix of light and dark fabrics. Variety makes the quilt more interesting and any collection of fabrics will work. The size of the blocks you choose to make will depend on the scale of your fabrics and the size of the quilt you choose to make. We will start with stacked squares, lights and darks, make two cuts with the aid of a cleverly designed ruler/template, sew, trim and “voila!” the block is done; from there we will soon be designing your quilt on the wall.

Orange Peel by Hand Sunday, December 4 from 12 pm to 4 pm This darling quilt is a great stash buster and so relaxing. The perfect grab-n-go for a car trip and much easier on the eyes than applique! You can draft yours any size and you’ll love the results!

Techniques
The Basics Sundays, October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and November 6 from 12 pm to 4 pm Learn the basic techniques of quilting that will give each student a solid foundation to use as a spring board to more complicated projects. Students will make a sampler quilt of 16 different blocks while learning numerous techniques and building a wealth of quilting knowledge. Students who take this class will have learned the skills to tackle just about any quilting technique. The Basics is an excellent opportunity to start at the beginning no matter how long you’ve been quilting.

Binding 101 Sunday, December 11 from 12 pm to 3 pm Your top is pieced, the borders added, the quilt is quilted… now what? We will cover the basics of binding in this three hour class. We will cover how to trim a quilt for binding, how to make straight grain and bias binding and how to attach the binding to the quilt with perfect mitered corners. Extras include that wonderful flange of fabric under the binding that adds so much punch. We are hoping that after this class, binding may be your favorite part of the quilt making process!

Embroidery in Cotton, Silk & Wool Sunday, December 18 from 12 pm to 3 pm Explore the outcome of embroidery stitches using cotton floss, silk floss and wool floss.

Blocks of the Month
Golden’s Journal/Block of the Month
Saturdays, October 15, November 12 and December 17 from 1 pm to 5 pm
(with classes continuing into 2012 to be held on the third Saturday of each month)
This 20 block sampler quilt honors life on a prairie farm in the early 1900’s. Enjoy the fellowship of other quilters as we construct two blocks each month. We will choose a setting for our blocks and finish the quilt the last two months.

Quilting the Garden/Block of the Month Saturdays, October 1, November 5 and December 3 from 10 am to 12 pm Enjoy making this Block of the Month needleturn applique quilt with machine pieced sashing and wavy border.
