This 8-week study follows the sermon series being taught during weekend services. We will go through sermon-based questions around the life of David, a man after God’s own heart.

AN INVITATION TO GREATNESS
Jesus doesn’t reject greatness… he redefines it 28
The dream… the longing for greatness
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
[Matthew 20:20-28] 20
Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling 21 down, asked a favor of him. “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
The desire for position and power 24
“for” = “in place of” The invitation to greatness is answered through serving • Start small
When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
The disciples argued about who was the greatest
[Matthew 18:1; Mark 9:34; Luke 22:24]
And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded. Matthew 10:42 (NLT)
• Practice with those closest to you • Keep going until it begins to feel natural
We naturally want the best seats 25
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
We naturally want to be above other 26 Not so with you…
The dream… to serve without recognition and without reservation
I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. John 13:15 (NLT)

…Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—
