Past President’s Message Dear Fellow SIOR’s: At this year’s Fall Conference nearly 900 members attended including representatives from 18 of the 34 countries represented by SIOR Worldwide. The mood was upbeat with business improving in the office and industrial markets, both domestically as well as internationally. Best practices were shared with a focus on national to enhance the SIOR brand through the use of technology and other targeted marketing to corporate decision makers within Fortune 1000 companies. Membership continues to grow exceeding 3,000 members worldwide. At the Council of Chapter Presidents meeting it was decided that all chapters would elect their officers to take their positions effective at the annual fall conference. With this change I am pleased to announce Jim Damiani as your new incoming President. Mike Salmen will move up to Vice President and Bill Wardwell was elected Secretary. All other Advisory Board members have agreed to retain their positions which creates great continuity for our local chapter. As your Past President I will remain involved and will coordinate our Sponsorship Program for 2014, Aaron Barnard will assist in Special Events and Educational programs, and Anne Tuccitto will remain our Chapter Administrator. We have accomplished much this past year and yet have much work left to be done. We had great participation in the Fall Conference with 19 members attending. SIOR Active Member Details SIOR designation is a professional achievement for highly qualified commercial real estate practitioners with a strong transactional history in brokerage, feebased services, or executive management. Who are SIOR designees? Ÿ Specialists in industrial and office markets. Ÿ “Transaction Closers” recognized by developers, lenders, and investors. Ÿ Top producing professionals - closing on average more than 30 transactions per year. Ÿ The Best of the Best - meet SIOR’s production, education, and ethical requirements. The SIOR designation is granted in one of six specialist categories: 1. Industrial - transaction specialist 2. Office - transaction specialist 3. Industrial & Office (Dual) - transaction specialist 4. Sales Management - manages at least 10 sales or leasing agents 5. Executive Management - manages 100+ agents in three or more offices 6. Advisory Services - consultant or advisory practitioner How do I earn the SIOR designation? Active Member Requirements Ÿ Have a minimum of 5 years of documented industrial and/or office real estate experience and is actively engaged as a broker or salesperson Production Ÿ Meet or exceed $350,000 in Gross Fee Income (GFI) for 3 out of the last 5 years Ÿ AT least 70% of the GFI must be derived from office or industrial transactions Ÿ A minimum of 5 transactions per year must be closed regardless of GFI Recommendation Ÿ Obtain formal recommendations from two active SIOR’s in the applicants chapter who are outside of the applicant’s firm Education Ÿ Meet SIOR’s education requirements or pass SIOR’s comprehensive membership entrance exam and online ethics course Ethics Ÿ Uphold the highest ethical standards of practice and pledge to uphold SIOR’s code of ethics.

Candidate Requirements 1) Experience: Have a minimum of three years and no more than eight years of documented industrial and/or office real estate brokerage experience and is actively engaged as an industrial and/or office real estate broker or salesperson. 2) Production: Demonstrate minimum production in one year as measured by Gross Fee Income (GFI) within the standards set by the local chapters. GFI is the fee income directly attributable to the applicant that the applicant’s firm receives before splits. The applicant must meet 50% of the set GFI amount for the 12 months preceding the application. GFI requirements by market are listed online at http://www.sior.com/membership/become-a-member/how-tobecome-a-member/appy-to-become-a-member. 3) Recommendation: Submit a formal recommendation from an Active Individual Member in the applicant’s chapter who is outside the applicant’s firm. 4) Mentor: Obtain a mentor, an Active Individual Member in the applicant’s chapter. The mentor is responsible for providing guidance and advice while the Candidate is working towards earning the SIOR designation.

If you are interested in getting involved at the Chapter level, we are looking for assistance in the areas of special events, newsletter, communication, branding, and sponsorship and committee members. We are planning a networking event for both sponsors and recruits in February, and will have a Happy Hour networking event on December 9th with Allen Gump, the National Vice President of SIOR and incoming President for 2015. This event is for all Chapter members and recruits interested in learning more on the national front, details will follow via email. We will be awarding the prestigious Boblett Award and our annual scholarship grants at the December 9th Economic Forecast as well as having a great program with Dr. Ted Jones of Stewart Title. It has been a pleasure serving you as your President this past year. and resources to make the conference the success it was. Through the support of our sponsors we have raised nearly $25,000 this year to support the operating budget of our Chapter. This has provided us the resources to put on four meaningful events including our Spring Technology Program, a joint Summer program with MNCREW focusing on LEED and Trends in Sustainability, our Summer Boat Cruise, and our upcoming Economic Forecast with Stewart Title’s Dr. Ted Jones which will take place on December 9th. We will also be distributing a MN Chapter directory at the December program and will be using this to mail direct to 250 of the top MN corporations to increase brand awareness of SIOR.
