KU VS. EAST STROUDSBURG (10/20/2012) EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Kutztown University’s Kevin Morton set the school-record for passing yards for the second straight week and the Golden Bears had three receivers top 100 yards for the first time since 1997 as KU picked up a 59-33 win over East Stroudsburg. Just seven days removed from a 479-yard effort that set the school record for passing yards in a game, Morton threw for 490 yards and three scores. He was nearly flawless going 35-of-42 (86 percent) with no interceptions. Colby Tuell, Brett Fox and Zach Snyder all benefitted from Morton’s record-setting performance, eclipsing the century mark for receiving yards in the contest. It was the first time since Terry Robertson, Anthony Browder and Chris Fraley did it against West Chester during the 1997 season that the Golden Bears had three receivers with as many yards. Tuell hauled in nine catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Fox and Snyder had seven catches apiece, with Fox covering 118 yards, while Snyder accumulating 109. KU also had five rushing touchdowns in the game. Curtis Wortham rushed for 92 yards on 12 carries and scored three times. Shahaid Smith, who also had four catches for 67 yards and a touchdown, rushed once for a four-yard score. Morton also found paydirt in the game. Jeremy Tucker made his first career start on defense and made a team-high eight tackles. Sam Dixon-Dougan and Matt Carroll had seven apiece. Matt Connors, Zach Greenwald and Cory Darby were each credited with a quarterback sack in the contest. Matt Soltes was the Warriors’ primary weapon on the day. He went 28-of-40 for 363 yards and three touchdowns and also led the team with 33 rush yards. Robert Bleiler had eight catches for 75 yards in the game to lead ESU. On defense, Anthony Singlar made 11 tackles to lead East Stroudsburg. Kutztown outgained ESU 599-437 in the game.

IT ONLY GETS EASIER: Kutztown holds the second-toughest schedule in the PSAC and the toughest in the Eastern Division based on past opposition. Not including games against KU, past opponents hold a record of 27-15 for a .643 winning percentage. Gannon holds the toughest schedule in the PSAC as its opponents hold a 30-12 record. Looking ahead to future opposition, KU’s future opponents hold an 11-17 record for a .393 winning percentage. NOT TOO SHABBY: Freshman Alex Tonnies brought in a school-record 17 catches on two occasions this season. He broke Terry Robertson’s single-game record set against Bloomsburg in 2000. Tonnies then tied his record with 17 catches against Bloomsburg. The PSAC single-game record for receptions is 18, set by Millersville’s Chris Pelczarski in 1991. 2013 KUTZTOWN FOOTBALL -- GAME 8 vs. East Stroudsburg University -- Saturday, October 26, 2013

FRESHMAN DEBUT: Alec Werner, a true freshman starting in his first collegiate game against Clarion, passed for 394 yards on 40-for-57 passing for an impressive 70.1 completion percentage. His 394 yards were the most by a freshman since Kevin Morton threw for 451 in 2010. Werner was the first true freshman to start a season-opener at quarterback for Kutztown since Michael de Marteleire in 1998 against Lock Haven. NARROW MARGIN: Kutztown fell by one-point to Clarion in the season-opener, 39-38 in overtime, and 22-21 to West Chester. The last time KU won by a one-point margin was a 20-19 win at Clarion in 2003. In its 98-year history, KU is 1419 in one-point games. RAPID FIRE: Kutztown ran 89 plays against Clarion. It ran more than 90 only one time in 2012, 91 vs. Saint Anselm. The school-record is believed to be 98 in 2007 against Southern Connecticut State. HAPPY 98TH BIRTHDAY: 2013 kicks off the 98th season of Kutztown University football. Beginning in 1895, Kutztown’s all-time record stands at 342-418-22 (.451). NEW FACES: Of the eight PSAC Eastern Division schools, three programs are under the guidance of first-year head coaches. Along with Drew Folmar at the helm of the Golden Bears, Bloomsburg’s Paul Darragh takes over as the interim head coach for Danny Hale, who retired during the offsea-

son after 25 years of coaching, 20 of which at Bloomsburg. Millersville’s Greg Breitbach will also be making his coaching debut after taking over for Ron Rankin, the interim head coach last season and current defensive coordinator. OVERTIME HEARTBREAK: Since 1996, Kutztown is 1-8 in overtime contests. It’s only OT win was a 26-23 victory over Millersville in three overtimes in the final game of the 2007 season. The Golden Bears played three overtime games in 1996 and two in 2010. ONE OF THE BEST: Entering the 2013 season, Kutztown had won 28 games over the past three seasons, tied for secondmost during that span amongst PSAC teams (California (PA)). Bloomsburg holds the most wins with 29. OPENING DAY: KU’s opening day loss to Clarion marked the first time since 2007 that it dropped the season-opener. ALL-PSAC PERFORMERS: Kutztown returns four all-conference players from 2012. Curtis Wortham (RS) and English Peay (CB) were both first team selections, as Wortham also received second team honors as a RB along with Zach Greenwald (DE), and Sam Dixon-Dougan (LB).
