Graduate PLUS Loan Request 2016-2017 Award Year A Graduate PLUS Loan is a loan that is available to graduate students through the U.S. Department of Education, who feel their educational needs will not be met utilizing an Unsubsidized loan alone. Interest begins to accrue after the first disbursement. PLUS loans cannot exceed your Cost of Attendance. You must have a valid Master Promissory Note and complete Entrance Counseling before receiving a disbursement. PLUS loans require to a credit check to determine application approval. If the credit check is denied, the student has the following options: 1.
The borrower may contact the U.S. Department of Education and provide information on extenuating circumstances relating to the adverse credit history and complete PLUS Counseling with the U.S. Department of Education. If the U.S. Department of Education approves the PLUS loan borrower, the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office may continue this request. The borrower will need to contact th e Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

The borrower may obtain an endorser and complete PLUS Counseling with the U.S. Department of Education. An endorser is someone who does not have an adverse credit history and agrees to repay the loan if the borrower does not repay it. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office will send your loan information to the U.S. Department of Education. This information is then included in the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and is accessible to you and authorized agencies, lenders, services, and institutions.
