1 ¾ yards of mat fabric (main fabric) 1 yard of binding fabric 1 ¾ yards of medium to heavy gage clear vinyl ( I use 12 gage) Package of “In-R-Form” foam ( I like using the fusible kind), or if buying by the yard it should be about 58” wide so you will need ½ yard 1 – Over the door hanger with 3 – 5 hooks on it. Do not get one which has the hooks wider than the 18” width of the mat. Wonder tape ( this is fusible on both sides and washes out) Sewing machine General sewing supplies to include cutting supplies 9 ½” or 12 ½” square ruler Removable marker Teflon foot Walking foot Button Hole foot Thread to match your fabrics.
Cutting Instructions:
Cut the foam 18” x 56” Cut the vinyl 18” x 126” long 4 – 2 ½” strips cut cross grain for binding of mat * 11 – 2” strips for binding of vinyl and the dividing strips.
* NOTE: we will use the bias tape making machine for folding the binding that goes around the vinyl and to make the dividing strips. If you are using your own fabric you may join all the strips together prior to class. Do not press in half. Prior to class be sure to have your mat quilted and bond so we can start right into creating the vinyl pockets.
