Child Absence Can I remind you that to report a child absent you need to phone the main school number, press 1 and leave a message. We also have our email attend@hatchellwood. doncaster.sch.uk Children in Need Thank you for all your donations towards Children in Need. We raised an impressive £380. Concerts Thank you to all the children, staff and parents for making the Christmas Concerts such a success. We had nine altogether including Pre School! All the children did a fantastic job. Many thanks for raising £275 for Bluebell Wood. Good Luck Mrs McColl. Mrs McColl will be leaving us at Christmas as Mrs Davis will be returning from maternity leave. We would just like to thank her for all her work this term and good luck for the future. Friday Mornings We will be continuing with open morning from 8.45 to 9.00 for you to come into the class and work with your child.

Christmas is finally here! It has felt like a long time coming and then suddenly it was upon us with concerts and parties. We have had another busy term in school with a lot of activities and the children are really enjoying our new creativ e curriculum from rollercoasters to Viking longboats. School Visits We have had some problems with getting enough money to pay for school visits. When we cost the visit we take the total cost and divide it by the number of children in the year group. Any shortfall is made up by school funds. We appreciate in these hard times that it can be difficult but if you are find-

ing it difficult to pay for the visit please come and talk to us and we can sort out an arrangement. We would much rather do this than have to cancel another visit because of lack of funds which we have had to do to the Year 3/4 classes this term. Breakfast Club Our Breakfast club is continuing to go from strength to strength. It runs every morning from 8 o clock. If you would like your child to attend, please see the breakfast club supervisors any morning and they will give you the forms to fill in, then your child can attend any morning that you would like them to. Anti Bullying Week We have had a successful anti-bullying week. The focus is to enable children to understand what bul-

lying is (as opposed to poor behaviour), how it makes people feel and what they can do if they or someone they know is being bullied. Year 5 Ice Age Competition Well done to Year 5 and especially Bailey Huby who came second in a national writing competition. They have won copies of all the Ice Age DVDs for the school and resources for their Christmas party. Late Arrivals A lot of children are arriving late at school. Please could you ensure your child is ready to come into school at 8.45am. Children regularly late are referred to the Education Welfare Officer.

Road Safety and Parking

Phonics

The children enjoyed the assemblies and activities during road safety week. Year 5 and 6 went onto Plumpton Park Road with the police and a speed camera and stopped motorists who were speeding. The children then talked to the motorists about the danger of speeding. We have more

The Reading and Phonics workshop for reception parents organised by Mrs Snow unfortunately only had three parents attend. If you would like to know more about how phonics is taught in school please go to the website where there is a phonics guide.

activities planned for January with the council’s road safety team. Could I also remind you that parking outside school continues to be a problem and the Police will be continuing to monitor the situation and will give out parking tickets.
