Ugly Bug Ball

This week we have been finishing off our learning about minibeasts. We have been discussing all the insects we have learnt about over the past term and seen if we have been able to remember facts and important features of each insect. We have made lists of the food we will need at our Ugly Bug Ball and also started practising for our Sports Day as a whole year group!

We have had a fantastic time today at our Ugly Bug Ball! Thank you so much for all the children’s wonderful outfits, we have had such a variety of minibeasts walking through the school today! The children have enjoyed making and eating ladybird biscuits and caterpillar kebabs. They have made and painted some salt dough minibeasts and also had great fun playing an orienteering game!

We learnt about time this week and each child made their own clock to help them tell the time to o’clock. We also reviewed the months of the year and what month our birthday is in. Richard from Bugs and Beasties finished our wigwam and has started on another near to our bug hotel. We have also set up our wormery so that we can make compost from our fruit peelings and cores. We released all of our butterflies into the wild so they can fly freely!

Next Term Next term we will be starting our new topic of ‘Journeys’. We will start by looking at the world and thinking about where we live and where we are situated on a world map. The children will be making their own passports for our role play area which will be an airport. If you have anything at home that would lend itself to the role play area and you are happy to lend it to us, we would be very grateful if you could send them in. Thank you.

Have a nice holiday! Mrs Summerfield, Miss Emery, Miss Ponder and Mrs Ludlow.
