Autumn Term Newsletter 9

2014 This week’s stars!

Message from the Head…

Robin: Ruben Frost for trying really hard.

Dear Parents

Woodpecker: Eva Tartaglia for focusing on a tricky task with great results.

I hope you have had a good weekend.

Kingfisher: Zoe Brunker for including some beautiful adjectives when writing about her favourite toy. Owl: Esme O’Shea for excellent ideas in History. Eagle: Ani Slade for a wonderful Remembrance poem.

As you will know Tuesday is Remembrance Day and while we do not dwell on the horrors of war we do encourage the children to show respect for those who have died or lost loved ones with a minute of silence at 11am. Our Year 4 pupils will walk down to the war memorial on the day and join in the village memorial event. Poppies are available in school for purchase; please ask in the office if you would like to make a donation.

Jake Bushnell – Respect & Friendship

The weather has got a lot colder. Please can I remind you all to make sure that your child has a warm winter coat in school each day and also, if possible, a woolly hat and gloves. Although we all encourage children to look after their property I always advise parents to buy the cheapest hat and gloves they can find as they can get lost.

Callum Duggan – Perseverance

I hope you have an enjoyable week.

SEALS/Values Awards: Wiliiam Glew – Confidence & Positivity Archie Ord – Positivity

Cameron Eaton-Mehmi – Co-Operation Kind regards Rebecca Simister

Last year’s event was a great success and we really want to replicate that this year. So please come along and support the school and do some Christmas shopping at the same time.

[Issue] :: [Date] Dawn til Dusk Hello everyone and welcome back to Dawn til Dusk. We hope you have all had an enjoyable and relaxing break; it’s good to see you all settled back. We left for half term with a bang, celebrating Halloween with our spooky bouncy castle disco. It all looked very spooky and we had an amazing time. We celebrated firework night in style with sparklers and the children were all very careful. Some of us also decorated firework biscuits with sprinkles and icing. On 29 November at 2pm Haynes Village Hall will be holding their annual Christmas bazaar. D2D will be running a stall to raise funds for all the lovely acitivities we offer. We would be very grateful if you could donate some small prizes that we could use. Thank you for your shoebox dontations; we can never have too many. Please continue to donate. Thank you. If you every wish to contact any member of the D2D team ring or text on 07554 662791 or email haynes @dawntildusk.co.uk Sponsored Read Thank you to all parents for your support with this. I am happy to report that a total of £740.84 was raised for the school, enabling us to buy lots of new books for the school. Well done everybody; a great achievement.

Be Safe, Be Seen In our Monday assembly I spoke to the children about the importance of being ‘seen’ as the hours of daylight diminish. I am aware that winter coats are usually dark coloured and I understand the practical reasons for this. I would encourage parents, especially if walking2to and from school, to purchase some sort of high visibility ‘slap bands’. These can be purchased cheaply on Amazon.

TEAM OF THE WEEK BRUNEL Attendance: Congratulations to Woodpecker Class for 98.71% attendance last week. E

Super Science We are currently working hard to achieve our Primary Science Quality Mark (PQSM ) Silver award. This means that we are trying to raise the profile of science across the school and, if we can, reach out to you at home too. Each week we will be including a very simple science experiment for you to try at home. Let us know how you get on by sending in any photographs taken to [email protected] The experiment for this week is below. The Unbreakable Egg What you need: An egg and cling film to wrap around the egg. Instructions: Wrap the egg in cling film, place in your palm and close your hand around it so your fingers are completely wrapped around the egg. Squeeze as hard as you can.

The egg should remain in one piece. If you are feeling extra brave you could try it without the cling film. The Science: If you’ve ever dropped an egg you know the shell is fragile but the shape of an egg is very strong. If pressure is applied evenly all over the shell it will not break.
