Dipped beam headlamps are designed to effectively light up the road in front of the vehicle during darkness, whilst causing as little glare as possible to oncoming traffic. As such, headlights used during daytime, waste most of their light directed to the road in front of the vehicle but little as a signal to the driver of an oncoming vehicle in bright daylight.
