MISSION STATEMENT With the feedback from our October survey on Mission Effectiveness, the School Advisory Committee is proposing that HRS adopt the school motto as the official mission statement. It would read: “The mission of Holy Rosary Cath-

olic School is to Live, Love, and Learn with Jesus Christ as our Model.” The committee is seeking feedback from our parent and parish community. If you would like to make any comments, suggestion, or pledge your support please email the school office so that feedback can be brought to the next meeting. Deadline is Monday, November 30th at 12:00pm. LEGACY PROJECT AND WEBSITE Rodney Ramos will be taking portrait type phots at HRS on Saturday, November 14th at 10:00am. The photos will be used to build a selection to chose from when our new webstie is rolled out. If you have some free time that morning and your child is dying to get back in to his/her uniform, we need volunteer models. In addition, we would like to take this opportunity to build a “Legacy Project” were students, from all generations, are photographed with a sign that reads, “I Am Holy Rosary.” This project will aid in future advertising campaigns. If your child, you, or someone you know attended HRS from any of its 129 years, and would like to help us in this, please join us as well. BEST OF YOLO COUNTY The Woodland Democrat holds an annual “Best of Yolo County.” This year HRS won 1st place for Private School/Educational Center– Davis and 2nd place Private School/Educational Center– Woodland. REVIEW/PREVIEW Mrs. Wilson– TK & K TK and Kindergarten have been busy with pumpkin business lately. We investigated the outside and inside of our class pumpkin, measured it with unifix cubes to see how tall it stood, predicted if the pumpkin would sink or float in a big tub of water and then tested it, estimated how many seeds were inside, dug the seeds out and counted them, and then used them for an art project. In our study of the letters “m” and “n”, we discussed how we can be merciful by helping and forgiving others and how we can all be nicer and neater. Students who exhibited mercy this week were Yamilet and Aldo. Those who showed us how to be nice this week were Joseph and Yandel, and those who went beyond being neat were Kamilah and Gracelyn. Thank you to awesome students! We met with our faith families to design sympathy cards for our faith-based community. In Writer’s Workshop kindergartners made labels and lists of their favorite Halloween costumes and decorations and during math began adding to 10 using holiday erasures to manipulate. K’ers made a Halloween booklet based on Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? with Mrs. Martinez. To further celebrate Halloween, we made orange-on-black torn paper jack-o-lanterns and enjoyed freshly popped popcorn and refreshing snow cones at our holiday party. Mrs. Jerwers— First/Second Grade This week was all about fall, Halloween, and pumpkins. We began reading the story, “Pumpkin Soup”, worked on the final draft of our Fall Cinquains, practiced the scientific method with a “Candy Corn” investigation, and learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Through Scholastic News, the children even discovered why jack-o-lanterns eventually rot! The week concluded with a trip to the pumpkin patch where students observed the pumpkin life cycle first-hand, from sprout to rotten! Numerous adjectives such as smallest, biggest, silliest, and bumpiest were used to describe these amazing plants. Next week we will begin the week reflecting on The Feast of All Saints which is perfect as we continue our religious studies centered on making good choices and reconciliation.
