Howard S. Wright Headquarters 18,800 sf 18,800 sf Seattle, Washington Commercial

Project Narrative As a legacy contractor in Seattle, Howard S. Wright has reinvented themselves through the design of their new headquarters. This new home was about more than just a new address. It represents a look to the future – their people, their community, and their clients. The goal was to create a space that welcomed all of these groups. They wanted to create a place their employees would be proud to call home – where they are proud to bring their clients, partners, family, and friends. Located on the upper level of a historically designated 60s-era post office building, the full floor space layout provides a seamless blend of wellness, safety, community, and craft. Wellness spaces are woven throughout the work place together with live digital job site screens to raise awareness of their work and their focus on safety. Large, flexible spaces blend in-house meeting areas with the ability to host community based events. The space needed to be an outstanding quality product – a direct reflection of the skill and dedication they put into every project. This is achieved in the attention to details in the finishes, the skill required in the wood features, and personal touches epitomizing their brand. Their love for craft is evident throughout as this project embodies a more traditional architect + builder design approach. Focusing on craft, a series of portals provide movement from the public zones to the open office areas and more internally focused collaboration zones. The portal elements are constructed of standard 2X4’s and push the boundaries of traditional and off-the-shelf construction, showcasing the company’s ingenuity, attention to detail, and willingness to experiment with process.
