A little about the trip
In 2016, a deadly flood ravished much of the beautiful state of West Virginia. This massive flooding deeply affected 12 counties, killed 23 people, and devastated over 1,200 homes and families. It didn’t take long for Next Step Ministries to realize that helping out was not going to be a simple recovery process. It was going to take time, and they wanted to help.They have been partnering with the town of Clendenin, West Virginia since the flood in 2016, and have seen recovery first hand alongside their new neighbors. Flood recovery continues, and will continue for years to come. While this is our first priority, they also realize that there are other struggles within this state. In a simple google search of West Virginia they see drastic statistics. Ranked among other states, West Virginia is #49 in healthcare quality, #44 in education, #49 in economy, and #50 in Employment. Only 27% of the state is college educated and the median income is $22,771. While these factors help them see the needs here, West Virginians see West Virginia as the land of opportunity. But our job this week is to help with the construction that will be going on. 80% of our work will be construction and 20% will be relational and participating in some community activities.
What to bring SINGLE twin size air mattress, Bedding/sleeping bag or sheets and a blanket/Pillow Bible -bring your personal Bible, as well as a King James Version to share with local families Water bottle Sunglasses/Hat Sunscreen/Insect repellent Snacks -granola bars or trail mix Shower towel/Swim towel Swimming suit -one-piece swimsuit or a t-shirt/covering a two-piece is required for ladies Toiletries -soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc. Work shoes Work clothes -old t-shirts, athletic shorts (finger tip long), cargo shorts, or jeans. Casual clothes Personal work gloves, safety glasses, hammer
