Student Guide
determining the extent to which individuals demonstrate leadership qualities
Purpose This strategy helps me identify qualities that contribute to successful leadership and judge the extent to which an individual demonstrates these qualities.
Instructions • Before you begin, make sure you know the qualities of an effective leader. • Identify an individual whose leadership you will examine. • Find out about the individual’s role as a leader. What did they accomplish? Who did they lead / influence? • Ask yourself whether or not the individual is an effective leader. • Identify several leadership qualities that were important and relevant to the individual. • Record the qualities in the first column on the activity sheet. • Consider whether or not the individual demonstrated each quality. Provide evidence to illustrate whether or not the quality was demonstrated. • For each quality, provide several pieces of evidence. • Based on the evidence, judge the extent to which the individual demonstrated each quality, using the scale: 1 – not at all 2 – somewhat 3 – definitely.
