NOTES:
One of the lessons I learned early in fatherhood is how personally humbling it is to have a child. There is a certain perspective that you gain when you realize that your life has to be entirely reordered around someone who is just so little. Parenting will teach you servitude. I realized just how small I actually was in the grand scheme of things when I had to drop everything “important” going on in my day to change that diaper blowout, or how little my schedule meant when it came time to rock the baby an extra hour or two. We go to great lengths for our children and while the four year old who can barely spell his name shouts from the backseat questioning if you do in fact actually know the way to grandma’s house, we learn something - we’re little too. Now, imagine if you found out that your kid was going to be the Savior of the whole world, how would you feel about that? For Mary it was almost too good to be true, and that’s why in Luke 1:46-56 we see Mary’s song of praise - The Magnificat. Mary realized quickly that her child was big and she was small. The God of Israel was coming into the world as a baby to save the world by his strength, right the world with his justice, and keep his promises to Abraham and his global family. This week as we look at Mary’s Magnificat I hope that you will follow her lead in allowing the promise of God incarnate, come as a sweet baby, reorder your life. May we take the time to get small, to be humbled, by our great God and King, Jesus Christ. In love, Dave Prayer: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for you have looked upon my humble estate and come for me in your love; for you are mighty and have done great things for me, and your name is holy. Jesus be the constant center of my life and when I wander bring me back, and when I forgot help me to remember, and when I think that I am big and you are little help me to see you as you are. Amen. Scripture: Luke 1:46-56
