All Participants must present their Northern Kentucky University All Card to participate, No Exceptions! Participants must play on only 1 gender and 1 co-rec team. Rosters are frozen when the regular season is completed. The Intramural Department will provide the official game balls. Jewelry may not be worn, including earrings, necklaces, watches, and bracelets. All participants must wear gym shoes with a non-marking sole. The following equipment may NOT be worn: billed hats or visors, any headgear with knots of any kind, sunglasses.

The Players and Substitutions 1. Team consists of 3 players + the goalie. 2. Substitutions are unlimited and occur "on the fly". 3. Substitutions should occur near the bench area and the entering player may not touch the ball until the player being replaced is off the court. 4. A keeper may be replaced only on a dead ball and the official must be informed.

The Game 1. The game will consist of 2 12-minute running clock halves a. Stop and go the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half 2. During play, the clock will only stop for injuries. 3. A coin toss will determine the team that kicks first. 4. Mercy Rule: When a team is up by seven or more goals with 10 minutes or less to go in the 2nd half

There will be 1, 2 minute Golden Goal period. A coin toss will determine which team will kickoff first. If after the period, neither team has scored, the winner shall be determined by penalty-kicks A penalty kick is taken from the basketball foul line The goalkeeper can move sideways but not forward until the ball is kicked. Each team will take 3 penalty kicks alternating turns The team that scores the greatest number of these will win. a. If necessary, the PKs will continue on a sudden-death basis: the first team to score an unanswered goal wins. 8. A different player will take each kick, progressing through the entire roster of players who played in the game. 9. Players must have played that game to participate in the penalty kick 10. Once the entire roster of players is completed, the initial kicking order will be repeated.

The Field 1. The ball is out whenever it fully crosses the black basketball court lines. 2. A kick-in takes place from that spot. 3. A corner kick or a keeper's throw takes place if it hits the back wall. a. Keeper's throw: (dead ball) the keeper may not pass the ball to himself; a keeper may receive the ball with his hands from a teammate only if the pass is played with anything but the feet or hands. b. Keeper has only 4 seconds to release the ball, at which time the count stops. 4. The player taking the kick-in must set the ball on the black line. 5. Defenders must stay behind the free throw line during goal kicks

6. The ball must be stationary and the kick-in must be taken within 4 seconds. 7. All kick-ins are INDIRECT 8. On any kick-in, the defending player must be at least 5 feet away from the ball. a. A Yellow Card will be issued if a player repeatedly disregards this rule. 9. If the ball touches the ceiling, the opposing team will take a kick-in from the midfield sideline. GOALKEEPER’S PLAY: 1. The goalkeeper may possess the ball with the hands as long as the ball stays within the goalkeeper’s box. 2. Any collision with the goalkeeper will be an automatic INDIRECT FREE KICK. 3. If he/she handles the ball outside the goalkeeper's box, inside the basketball three-point line, a penalty kick shall be awarded to the opposing team. 4. The keeper loses the ability to handle the ball and is treated as a regular player outside of the goal box. 5. Pass Back: After clearing a dead or live ball, the keeper may not play the ball until it has either touched an opponent or crossed the half court line. a. If the keeper touches the ball, an INDIRECT FREE KICK is awarded at the three-point line closest to where the ball was touched or at the spot of the infraction if outside the three-point line. 6. This rule resets every time the keeper touches the ball.

Fouls and Misconduct 1. Slide tackling is prohibited and will result in a Yellow Card 2. On any free kick, the defending player must be at least 5 feet away from the ball. Direct Free Kick 1. The following infractions will result in a DIRECT FREE KICK (a one-man wall may be formed). a. Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent b. Tripping an opponent c. Jumping or throwing himself upon an opponent d. Charging an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner e. Charging an opponent from behind unless the opponent is obstructing f. Striking or attempting to strike an opponent or spitting on an opponent g. Holding an opponent h. Pushing an opponent i. Charging an opponent with the shoulder j. Sliding in an attempt to play the ball, when an opponent (slide tackle) is playing it k. Handling the ball, except the keeper in his penalty area 2. Should a player of the defending team intentionally commit one of the above 11 offenses within his penalty area (marked by the basketball three-point line) his team shall be penalized with a penalty kick, regardless of the position of the ball, as long as it is in play. 3. Accumulation of Fouls: A team can accumulate 5 personal fouls during a half (those accumulated in the second half carry over into overtime). 4. A personal foul inside the three-point line is an automatic penalty kick. 5. If a player has an open goal ahead of him/her and is fouled, or when a defender intentionally handles the ball, blocking an obvious opportunity for a score, a DIRECT FREE KICK is awarded. a. The offending player must receive a YELLOW CARD. 6. A penalty kick is taken from the basketball foul line if the foul takes place in the penalty area. Indirect Free Kick 1. The following infractions will result in an INDIRECT FREE KICK: a. Playing in a manner considered by the referee to be dangerous b. When not playing the ball intentionally obstructs an opponent, running between him and the ball, or interposing the body in such a manner as to prevent an opponent from playing the ball when he is not in control of the ball. c. Charging the keeper except when he has passed outside the penalty area d. When playing as a keeper: he/she touches or controls the ball with his hands or feet, on their half of the court, for more than four seconds i. Two yellow cards equal a RED CARD and the player is ejected from the game. ii. The team must then play one down for the remainder of the game. e. The player who receives the red card must speak with the Intramural Professional Staff in order to play remaining games

Sportsmanship Policy and Ratings 1. A sportsmanship rating system will be used to control player, captain and bench personnel unsportsmanlike conduct and improper behavior. 2. A player, captain or other bench personnel receiving an ejection from the game shall not be allowed to compete in the next regularly scheduled contest. 3. Campus Recreation may also enforce additional penalties against such persons based on the ejected players. 4. Team captains are responsible for the conduct of their players, sidelines, and spectators. 5. If a player is ejected and refuses to tell his/her name, the captain may also be ejected if he/she will not reveal the name. Sportsmanship Ratings will be based on the following criteria: 5-Excellent Conduct and Sportsmanship - Players cooperate fully with the officials and other team members. The captain calmly converses with officials about rule interpretations and calls. The captain also has full control of his/her teammates. Teams that win by forfeit will receive a “5.” 4-Good Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team members verbally complain about some decisions made by the officials and/ or show minor dissension, which may or may not merit a yellow card (soccer), unsportsmanlike flag (flag football), technical foul (basketball). 3-Average Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team shows verbal dissent towards officials and/or the opposing team, receiving a card(s), unsportsmanlike flag(s) or technical foul(s). Captain exhibits minor control over his/her teammates, but is in control with himself/herself. 2-Below Average Conduct and Sportsmanship – Teams constantly comments to the officials and/or the opposing team from the field and/or the sidelines. The team captain exhibits little or no control over teammates and/ or himself/herself. 1-Poor Conduct and Sportsmanship – Team is completely uncooperative. Captain has no control of teammates, and/ or himself/herself. Any team causing a game to be forfeited, other than by not showing, or receives multiple ejections shall receive a “1” rating. A team that receives a “1” rating must have their captain meet with the Intramural Professional Staff the following day to be eligible to play their next contest.
