Another busy year from Hedleys Sport Here is a recap of our sporting achievements through 2016/2017: Percy Hedley School hosts school games sensory festival: Percy Hedley School hosted a School Games Sensory Festival last week. Children from Gibside School, Cedars Academy, Bamburgh School and Percy Hedley took part in a selection of sports including sitting volleyball, ten-pin bowling and pool. It’s the first time we’ve hosted a Sensory Festival and hope it’s the first of many to come in future!
Panathlon Swimming Event Hedley Sport took part in a swimming event on Tuesday 13th June at the Lakeside Centre. We had a team of eight swimmers made up of KS4 and post 16 students. Pippa Rowlands began the day’s competition by swimming in the 25m freestyle. Zayd Ali was the next athlete to hit the water in the 25m backstroke. Jade Jamieson, Liam McBride, Rhys, Ben Johnson and Danny Morton took part in the 10m freestyle events, and all made fantastic efforts. In the 50m Freestyle, Daniel Kelly finished in the top three. In the team events, superb teamwork was displayed to collect all treasure in the treasure hunt, score a basket in the Ball shuttle relay and successful complete the Raft race challenge. Overall the students had a great day, finishing 5th overall, with Northern Counties winning the competition. Well done all!
Trampolining Competition Students from KS2, KS3 and KS4 took part in a fantastic day at the AAA sports centre in Sunderland. The students had to perform a routine which involved a straddle jump, seat landing, tuck jump and a 1/2 twist. The students tried so hard and performed in front of judges after practicing a few times. Charlotte was first in the KS2 Female category and Joe was first in the KS4 Male category followed by Rhys and Daniel in second and third. Nathan was second in the KS3 male category. We are immensely proud of all the students who took part!
Tyne & Wear School Games Five students from Hedleys Sport went along to Lord Lawson Beamish Academy on Tuesday 28th March to represent North Tyneside in the school Games. There was 14 schools altogether and we all had a really good morning well done to the team who qualified to go to this event.
Wanderers Badminton Event Students from Andrew Hall’s class went along to represent Hedleys Sport at John Spence High School on Tuesday 25th April. They had 8 different challenges to do working round each station and spending 5minutes on each one. They worked fantastically well as a team and supported each other through all the challenges.Tom Perry was chosen at the very end to do a challenge of his own against one of the badminton coaches and he performed brilliantly. When the scores were read out we were placed second overall. Andrew Hall class teacher said that he was very proud of his class for all doing so well
North East Regional Panathalon Five students from Hedleys Sport teamed up with students from Sir Charles Parsons at Gateshead International Stadium, for the North East Regional Panathlon. The combined team was named the Tyne & Wear Falcons. The Falcons played five different sports and gained points as they played. They won Polybat, table cricket, Javelin, sprint relay and new age kurling. Danny Watson entered into the powerchair slalom and won silver and, silver again in the power chair sprints. At the end of the events all points were totaled up and the winners of the 2017 regionals were THE FALCONS!. The team were overjoyed at winning, and this means that we are now through to the Nationals to be held in York in October of this year. Well Done Tyne & Wear Falcons
Wanderers Football Tournament The boys from Upper School and Lower School competed at the wanderers tournament in Walker. Both the Under 14 and Under 16 teams were a credit to the school and the staff were very proud of their best efforts. The Under 16’s narrowly were beaten 1-0 by the future winners of the tournament. They earned a fantastic 2-2 draw against another good side with two goals from Dylan Creamer. They played great and tried their best the whole day. The Under 14’s really enjoyed their day and equally gave their all in every game. Neither team won the tournament but we were very happy with Paras Duggal who won the player of the tournament for his relentless effort and fantastic tackling and passing.
Lord Taverners North East Regional Boccia The Lord Taverners Boccia Leagues took place at Gateshead Leisure Centre on the 29th March. Seven teams in total two of which were from Hedleys Sport. Both teams played well against high skilled opposition, with one of the teams finishing in bronze medal position. The two teams showed excellent sportsmanship and good teamwork …… well done to all
