Next Steps Re-read 1 Peter 2:1-12 If you applied verses 2-3 what would that look like for you? One of the best things you could do this week would be to contact a mature follower of Christ whom you respect and ask them how they study God’s Word. As you consistently pursue Christ, God will transform you into Christlikeness. Remember that holiness is not sinlessness, it is yieldedness to God in all areas. Ask God to show you any areas of your life that are not yielded (open) and obedient to Christ’s presence. V. 5 says that we are to offer spiritual sacrifices to God. Romans 12:1-2 explains what that is: Romans 12:1-2 Message Paraphrase So here's what I want you to do, God helping you:Take your everyday, ordinary life––your sleeping, eating, going–to–work, and walking–around life––and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. 2 Don't become so well–adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God.You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well–formed maturity in you. After reading those two verses, what do you believe God is communicating to you? Vs. 6-8 The cornerstone (or foundation stone) concept is derived from the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure. Jesus is to be the foundation/reference point of our lives for everything we do, say, and think. He is to be our “go to” on all issues (i.e.: what would Jesus want me to do in this situation, etc.?). We all have a “cornerstone” in our lives…something/someone who is our reference point who takes precedence over all things. What would it look like for Jesus to be the reference point in your life? Vs. 9-10 You have been chosen by the Creator of the Universe to receive mercy and purpose in life. Regardless of the present season of life you may be experiencing, start and end your days this week, thanking God for the blessings you have been given by Him. Make time this week to contact a mature follower of Jesus and talk through these “next steps” with them.
