Message From President Martin
Happy Dollars are donations to the Kiwanis Club for Kiwanis’ use, and are not tax deductible. We were happy last fiscal year. The club received $907.00 Happy dollars. The Grocery card profits go to the Kiwanis Club Foundation. The profit on those was $567.50 for the last fiscal year. Gifts to the foundation are not tax deductible right now due to complications with the IRS. The board is working to rectify that situation, and we expect the fix will be retroactive. Several of our members contribute to the Orthodontia program. For those who don’t know about the program, tell them that we pay part of the cost of orthodontia treatment for youngsters who have no other coverage available. Or we supplement available coverage. We require the child’s family to contribute a portion as well, and the dentist gives a discount. Treatment is not for appearances sake, but for conditions affecting the child’s health. For example, the malocclusions make it difficult for the child the eat. Also tell them, if they prefer, they can give a donation to the Foundation designated for general use, i.e. not restricted to the orthodontia program.
