LaMont C. Lee Inducted 2010 Award for Meritorious Service
LaMont Lee taught, coached and served as Athletic Director 1945-53; the lone faculty member in the NNU Athletic Department. During his tenure, he developed NNU Intercollegiate Basketball, Baseball, Cross Country and Track, in addition to the Football, Basketball and Track programs at College High School. He founded the college intramural program, developing it into one of the strongest of its kind in the Northwest, and originated the annual “Turkey Bowl” intramural football game, the “Tip-Off” basketball contest and the Society Jamboree Basketball Program. As a student at NNU, Lamont played basketball 1943-45. An energetic and tireless worker, LaMont accomplished much with very few resources. Dedicated to the cause of Christian Education, he was a friend and counselor of students and an encourager to all he encountered. He shaped the lives of countless NNU students, men and women, talented and not so talented. A reading of the history of Northwest Nazarene University tells of the many and varied contributions the students from his era made to the church and society; evidence of a great educator.
