Lantana: An Old Florida Community of Friends, Families and Neighbors

Councilmembers Philip J. Aridas Malcolm Balfour Lynn J. Moorhouse, D.D.S. Edward Paul Shropshire

Vacation Rentals in Town South Florida is a major vacation destination and many people choose to rent their homes to tourists. The Lantana Code of Ordinances regulates how you can rent your property in some areas of town. Short-term rentals are prohibited in the R1 residential zoning district and in the R1A zone (Hypoluxo Island), which means rentals less than 30 days are not allowed. Please refer to the Towns Zoning Map on our website to determine your zoning district. You can only rent your home for 30 days or more in these areas. An illegal short-term rental could lead to a fine. The Town’s code enforcement staff periodically checks the Internet for vacation rental websites to see if any properties in those areas are advertised for short-term rentals.

Lantana Receives GOLD Designation in National Program The Town of Lantana recently teamed up with five other local municipalities and Palm Beach County to participate in SolSmart, a national program that provides technical assistance to guide communities in lowering the costs and reducing barriers for community members to install solar energy systems. Lantana was selected in a nationwide competitive process to be granted no-cost technical assistance from a SolSmart Advisor. To receive a SolSmart designation, communities must take action to reduce solar “soft costs,” which are the non-hardware costs that can increase the time and money it takes to install a solar energy system. Lantana is proud to announce to its residents it has received the highest designation of Gold from the national SolSmart program for taking the most aggressive steps to encourage solar energy growth and remove obstacles to streamline the permitting process for residents and businesses who want to install solar. The Town hopes these efforts will empower more homeowners and businesses to go solar, generate their own clean energy, and save money on their electric bills. Please visit Lantana’s new solar web page at https://www.lantana.org/interested-in-solar-energy to find out more.

Work is expected to begin soon on the entrance road into the site from Lantana Road.

2018 Election Information

The renovation of the former DJJ building located at 901 N. 8th Street is complete and our Lantana Police Department moved to this location. Along with their relocation, a few other Town Departments have shifted around.

The Town will not be having an election on March 13, 2018. Mayor Stewart is the only candidate that qualified for the Councilmember Group 5 (Mayor) seat and is therefore unopposed. Per the Town’s charter he is automatically reelected to another three-year term ending in March 2021.

The Development Services Department, which includes Building, Planning and Zoning & Code Enforcement Offices, is now located at 504 Greynolds Circle (the former Police Department). The former Building Department & Code Enforcement building located at 418 S. Dixie Highway has become our new Parks and Recreation division. Stop by to inquire about Enjoy Lantana! events, Town facility rentals or Town Sports Programs. All emails and phone numbers have remained the same.
