Scripture references: Genesis 41 through 46; Philippians 1:6
1. Joseph’s Dreams Come True God had given Joseph wisdom to rule as governor of Egypt. During this time, Joseph married and had two sons. He named them Ephraim and Manasseh. When famine came to the land of Egypt, the people were ready, for Joseph had stored up enough to last many years. Even lands far away had no food, and people came great distances to buy food from Joseph. Jacob’s sons, Joseph’s brothers, were among those who made the journey to Egypt to buy food. When Joseph’s brothers arrived in Egypt, they were brought before Joseph. He recognized them right away, but his brothers did not recognize him. They bowed low before Joseph, for he was the second most powerful man in Egypt. He was the governor. Joseph’s dreams of the wheat sheaves and the stars bowing to him had come true. BFP: 66, 67
2. God’s Plan Is Revealed At first, Joseph spoke harshly to his brothers. He wanted to see if they had changed. Were they sorry for what they had done to him? Joseph tested them by having them bring Benjamin to him. When his brothers came the second time bringing Benjamin, Joseph could see that his brothers truly had changed. They did

not want any harm to come to Benjamin. Joseph could no longer hold in his feelings. He told his brothers who he was, and he wept before them. He told them not to be angry with themselves because of what they had done to him. Even though they meant it for harm, God meant it for good. Joseph now knew why God had let him be sold into slavery and put in prison. The hard things he had gone through were to put him in this position where he could save the lives of all his people. Joseph invited his brothers, his father, and all their families to come to Egypt and live in the land of Goshen. BFP: 68
3. God’s Plan for You Joseph’s life is an example to all believers. God is always working in our lives for our good. When things seem to go wrong in your life, God is still working out His plan for you. When you give your life to Jesus by asking forgiveness for your sins and accept Him as your Savior, He will work in your life to make you the person He wants you to be. You can trust that through all situations God is working. He will never let you down and He will never leave you. He will be with you all your life. BFP: 522

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS ❑ When famine came to the land of Egypt, the people were ready because Joseph had
been faithful to God. What do you think might have happened if Joseph had let his difficult times overcome him and he had not remained faithful to God during those times? ❑ When Joseph was sold as a slave, and again when he was in prison, do you think he knew of the great things God would do through him later in life? What lesson can you learn from this? © 2007 Gospel Publishing House, 1445 N. Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802. Permission to duplicate for classroom use only.
