Louie Harmon Childs March 3, 1940 - Sept. 11, 2015

Louie Harmon Childs age 75, born on March 3, 1940, in Oconee County, Seneca, SC was the youngest son of Mattie Mae King Childs and Louie Blease Childs, both deceased. Harmon passed away after a long illness on 9/11/15. He leaves behind an older brother, Richard Blease Childs, and wife Margie Childs, and a nephew of Ricky Childs all of Seneca, SC. He also was also predeased in death by an older brother, Charles Ray Childs from Seneca, SC with a nephew Dennis Childs, and niece Debbie Childs Bailey both of Tennessee. He leaves behind a devoted and loving wife, Nancy Moore Childs of over 51 years of marriage of Seneca, SC. They had only one child, Tammy Lynn Childs Hodge of Sumter, SC and two beloved grandchildren, Arthur “Davis” Plowden IV of Sumter, SC from Sumter, SC currently in Clemson University, and a granddaughter, Victoria Alexandria Plowden-Rumbold of Sumter and a son-in-law, Myles Rumbold of Reading, England. Both of which reside in Sumter, SC. Louie Harmon Childs was master welder, pipe fitter for BASF for more than 30 years of service. He also was a veteran of the Vietnam War from 1962-1964 where he was an expert rifleman of M-1, sharp shooter, and received numerous Good Conduct Metals and Awards for being an Aircraft Repairman and Mechanic. He received numerous certificates of achievement as for being an Aircraft Repairman and Mechanic. He obtained numerous achievement awards for superior skill and technical knowledge as head of the sheet metal section and leadership skills of a crew of men in South Vietnam. He was a long time member and Deacon of Snow Creek Baptist Church and an active member of the choir. He loved the Lord, singing, his family and delighted in joy in his two grandchildren. In addition, to being a master welder and pipefitter, he was an avid farmer in Seneca, SC raising beef cattle and other livestock. He worked hard, was multi-talented as he was able to build almost anything, good husband, father, and grandfather with a zest for life and traveling. He was a humble, generous and a conservative man. He inspired his daughter to obtain a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University. Services will be held at Brown Oglesby Funeral Home at 101 East North Second Street, Seneca, SC 29678 on Saturday, September, 19th, 2015 with visitation from 1-3 p.m. and the service at 3 p.m. officiated by Pastor Ken Culbertson with an immediate gravesite burial at Oconee Memorial Park in Seneca, SC. Special thanks to all participants of the service from the family. He will be deeply missed by all but seen again in heaven.
