• Mansfield will look to win back-to-back conference games and snap a 16-game series losing streak against Shippensburg on Monday night. Mansfield is tied for the sixth and final PSAC East play-off spot after defeating Cheyney 6257 Friday night. Shippensburg enters tonight’s game in a three-way tie for the lead in the division along with East Stroudsburg and West Chester. • Mansfield is 14th in the PSAC in scoring offense at 59.0 points a game while ranking 13th in scoring defense at 69.1 points an outing. Shippensburg is scoring the 11th most points in the conference (68.5 ppg) while allowing the fourth least to opponents (58.6 ppg). • Freshman Bella Ricci earned her second PSAC East Freshman of the Week accolade on Monday afternoon after scoring 11 points in games against Cheyney and West Chester. Ricci currently ranks third on the team in scoring at 8.5 points a game and has hit double-figure scoring in six games this season. She is averaging 24.5 minutes a game off the bench. • Brielle Kelly ranks 17th in the PSAC in scoring (13.6 ppg) and 11th in rebounding (7.9 rpg) through the first 12 games of the season. The junior has scored in double-figures in 11-of12 games and recorded four double-doubles. Tianna Jackson is the second Mountaineer averaging double-figure scoring at 10.9 points a game. • Shippensburg (9-5, 4-4 PSAC) is riding a fourgame win streak and is currently tied for the top spot in the eastern division. All five of the Raiders’ starters are averaging double-figure scoring led by Stephanie Knauer at 15.0 ppg
• Brielle Kelly scored a game-high 19 points to power Mansfield past Cheyney 62-57 Friday night on the road for the Mountaineers’ first PSAC win of the season. • Kelly connected on 8-of-14 field goals in the game and was a perfect 3-3 at the charity stripe to lead Mansfield (3-9, 1-7 PSAC) offensively. The junior scored 12 of her game high 19 points in the second half while pulling down eight rebounds. Bella Ricci was the only other Mountaineer in double figure scoring, coming off the bench to put up 11 points. • Rumbaugh was just shy of her third double-double of the season with nine points and nine rebounds. Tianna Jackson and Steph Davis each added eight points. • Leading scorer TaKayla Ellis scored a teamhigh 14 points with Marlon Herring and Qiuinniea Gross each recording double-doubles for Cheyney (1-7, 1-7 PSAC).
LOOKING AHEAD • It will be a quick turnaround for the Mountaineers who hit the road again on Wednesday to take on Bloomsburg in PSAC East action. The match-up will feature former Mansfield head coach and women’s basketball and softball standout Alison Tagliaferri who is in her first season guiding the Huskies. • Bloomsburg is 1-11 overall and winless in the PSAC at 0-8.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL WHITLING Michael Whitling was named the next head coach of the Mansfield University women’s basketball program at a press conference in July of 2016. Whitling joined the Mountaineers after serving as an assistant coach with Gannon University women’s basketball from 2013 to 2016 under head coach Jim Brunelli. During that time, the Golden Knights made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2014 & 2015) and saw five players hit the 1,000
point scoring milestone. Gannon compiled a three-year record of 66-23 and made numerous appearances in the national rankings, sitting as high as No. 2 in the country during the 2013-14 season. Prior to Gannon, Whitling served as Brunelli’s assistant at Anderson University (S.C.) for three seasons. Whitling helped Anderson to South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular season and tournament titles during the 2012-13 season along with an NCAA Tournament berth. The Trojans also knocked off Division I Clemson 7265 earlier that season. Whitling got his start in coaching as a Graduate Assistant for Clarion University women’s basketball under four-time PSAC West Coach
of the Year Margaret “Gie” Parsons from 2005-08 before serving as the head coach of the Du Bois High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team for two seasons. The Knox, Pa. native earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Clarion in 2004 before receiving his master’s degree in Education in 2008. While at Clarion, he was a three-year letter winner for the Golden Eagles’ baseball team. Whitling earned All-PSAC Western Division second-team utility honors, recording the fifth-highest single-season batting average (.357) in school history as a senior.

• Mansfield will look to win back-to-back conference games and snap a 16-game series losing streak against Shippensburg on Monday night. Mansfield is tied for the sixth and final PSAC East play-off spot after defeating Cheyney 6257 Friday night. Shippensburg enters tonight’s game in a three-way tie for the lead in the division along with East Stroudsburg and West Chester. • Mansfield is 14th in the PSAC in scoring offense at 59.0 points a game while ranking 13th in scoring defense at 69.1 points an outing. Shippensburg is scoring the 11th most points in the conference (68.5 ppg) while allowing the fourth least to opponents (58.6 ppg). • Freshman Bella Ricci earned her second PSAC East Freshman of the Week accolade on Monday afternoon after scoring 11 points in games against Cheyney and West Chester. Ricci currently ranks third on the team in scoring at 8.5 points a game and has hit double-figure scoring in six games this season. She is averaging 24.5 minutes a game off the bench. • Brielle Kelly ranks 17th in the PSAC in scoring (13.6 ppg) and 11th in rebounding (7.9 rpg) through the first 12 games of the season. The junior has scored in double-figures in 11-of12 games and recorded four double-doubles. Tianna Jackson is the second Mountaineer averaging double-figure scoring at 10.9 points a game. • Shippensburg (9-5, 4-4 PSAC) is riding a fourgame win streak and is currently tied for the top spot in the eastern division. All five of the Raiders’ starters are averaging double-figure scoring led by Stephanie Knauer at 15.0 ppg
• Brielle Kelly scored a game-high 19 points to power Mansfield past Cheyney 62-57 Friday night on the road for the Mountaineers’ first PSAC win of the season. • Kelly connected on 8-of-14 field goals in the game and was a perfect 3-3 at the charity stripe to lead Mansfield (3-9, 1-7 PSAC) offensively. The junior scored 12 of her game high 19 points in the second half while pulling down eight rebounds. Bella Ricci was the only other Mountaineer in double figure scoring, coming off the bench to put up 11 points. • Rumbaugh was just shy of her third double-double of the season with nine points and nine rebounds. Tianna Jackson and Steph Davis each added eight points. • Leading scorer TaKayla Ellis scored a teamhigh 14 points with Marlon Herring and Qiuinniea Gross each recording double-doubles for Cheyney (1-7, 1-7 PSAC).
LOOKING AHEAD • It will be a quick turnaround for the Mountaineers who hit the road again on Wednesday to take on Bloomsburg in PSAC East action. The match-up will feature former Mansfield head coach and women’s basketball and softball standout Alison Tagliaferri who is in her first season guiding the Huskies. • Bloomsburg is 1-11 overall and winless in the PSAC at 0-8.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL WHITLING Michael Whitling was named the next head coach of the Mansfield University women’s basketball program at a press conference in July of 2016. Whitling joined the Mountaineers after serving as an assistant coach with Gannon University women’s basketball from 2013 to 2016 under head coach Jim Brunelli. During that time, the Golden Knights made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2014 & 2015) and saw five players hit the 1,000
point scoring milestone. Gannon compiled a three-year record of 66-23 and made numerous appearances in the national rankings, sitting as high as No. 2 in the country during the 2013-14 season. Prior to Gannon, Whitling served as Brunelli’s assistant at Anderson University (S.C.) for three seasons. Whitling helped Anderson to South Atlantic Conference (SAC) regular season and tournament titles during the 2012-13 season along with an NCAA Tournament berth. The Trojans also knocked off Division I Clemson 7265 earlier that season. Whitling got his start in coaching as a Graduate Assistant for Clarion University women’s basketball under four-time PSAC West Coach
of the Year Margaret “Gie” Parsons from 2005-08 before serving as the head coach of the Du Bois High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team for two seasons. The Knox, Pa. native earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Clarion in 2004 before receiving his master’s degree in Education in 2008. While at Clarion, he was a three-year letter winner for the Golden Eagles’ baseball team. Whitling earned All-PSAC Western Division second-team utility honors, recording the fifth-highest single-season batting average (.357) in school history as a senior.
