Migrant Education Region 2 Speech and Debate Regional Winners
It was an exhilarating day for the Region 2 Migrant Educational Speech and Debate Tournament that was held on Saturday, March 10. Over 100 students from across California participated after qualifying by winning their local competitions in February. The day was filled with exiting speeches, debates, student dances, a keynote speaker and an incredible authentic lunch. Winners from the regional competition will be continuing onto the State competition in Visalia on May 4-6, 2018.

Migrant Education Region 2 Speech and Debate Regional Winners Highlights from the Region 2 Local (Area) Competitions During that day 109 students from the three sites of Region 2 advanced on to regional competition at the Woodland Community College.
Oroville Area From the Oroville area, seventy-one students participated at Butte College and judges were impressed: “They hit it out of the park.”
A group of students from Butte County performed a Punjabi dance routine.
Santa Rosa Area
At the Santa Rosa local site, eighty-six students competed at Sonoma State to advance to the regional competition. The SSU Admissions Director, a former migrant student, Gustavo Flores provided one keynote speech and another former migrant speech and debate student and UC Davis 2018 Area Alumnus of the Year, Alberto Botello, gave the second keynote.
