Monkey Memory Game Memory Skills Turn Taking Focus and Attention Ages: 5 – adult Players: 2 – 8 Everyone look what the monkeys have done! They’ve snatched away items and gave back all but one. A gang of monkeys have broken out of the zoo and stolen a whole pile of items from the zoo's visitors! After all the items are recovered, one is still missing. Keep your eyes sharp, because a different item will be lost each round. In Monkey Memory, players get to see all the items once, and then they must quickly determine which item is missing. Everyone places their thumb on their marker card over the symbol matching the item that they feel is correct. Get a monkey coin for each correct answer -- the player with the most at the end of the game wins!

Memory Skills - Learning occurs through repeated experiences over time. These experiences are stored in memory for later use. Learning has taken place when a child is able to retrieve these experiences from memory and use them for recognition, completing tasks and solving new problems. You can support your child’s learning and memory skills by creating an environment that promotes exploration and supports children’s learning and memory. It encourages children to try new things, to take risks and to practise what they have learnt. Opportunities to practise tasks that require children to recall information from memory support learning. Turn Taking is a challenging, yet critical skill to teach our children. I’m reminded of a poster that used to hang in my dentist’s office that listed everything that the author learned in Kindergarten and how those skills transfer into adult life and our daily interactions. Turn taking is among those skills. This is a skill that one carries from the sandbox to the boardroom and, certainly, into our personal adult relationships as well. I believe that the ability to take turns gracefully yet while effectively sticking up for your own needs, requires extensive prompting and coaching early on. Simple turn taking games should be part of daily play. This begins as early as Peek-a-Boo!
