“Birds in the Air” 12” x 12” Cutting Directions ¡ From

Each of the Green, Blue, Red, & Purple fabrics cut: - (3) 3” x 3” Squares (C)

¡ From

Background fabric cut: - (12) 3” x 3” Squares (A) - (12) 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” Squares (B)

Piecing Instructions ¡ Mark

a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of (2) Background “A” Squares

¡ Layer

¡ Sew

¡ Cut

(1) Background “A” Square with (1) Green“C” Square.

a 1/4” seam on both sides of the Drawn line.

block in half on the drawn line. Press towards the Green fabric. Square block up to 2-1/2” x 2-1/2”.

¡ Repeat

the previous (3) steps with the (11) remaining Background “A” Squares and the Green, Blue, Red, and Purple “C” Squares to make a total of (6) Half Square Triangles (HST) of each color way

¡ Layout

(6) Green HSTs and (3) Background “B” squares as shown.

¡ Sew

blocks into rows pressing seams in opposite directions.

¡ Sew

rows together pressing seams open, to make (1) Pieced block

¡ Repeat

all previous steps to make a total of (4) Pieced blocks

¡ Layout

the (1) Green block, (1) Blue block, (1) Purple block, & (1) Red block as shown.

¡ Sew

blocks together in rows, pressing seams open

¡ Sew

rows together to make (1) “Birds in the Air” block, pressing seams open. Block should measure 12-1/2” x 12-1/2”
